Is it nearly time to crown a new "King"?
Drake, who boasted about being "one step away from Michael [Jackson]" on his latest album, For All The Dogs, has equaled the record with the same track. Drake, aged 36, achieved his 13th chart-topping hit on the Billboard Hot 100 Songs chart on Monday, October 16, with the debut of "First Person Shooter" featuring J. Cole. This impressive feat now places him on par with the legendary Jackson for the most number one hits by a solo male artist in the history of the chart.
"Will they ever offer me flowers? Well, definitely not. They refuse to discuss it because it's a sensitive subject," Drake rapped on the final verse of "First Person Shooter." "They are aware of The Boy, the person they want to boycott. I even told Jimmy Jam that I use a GRAMMY as a doorstop... People talking about when this will happen again. What the hell, bro? I am just one away from Michael. Leave me alone, leave me alone, what?"
In terms of the Most Billboard No. 1 Hits in history, Drake still has a few more to achieve before reaching the top. Currently, Rihanna holds the third position, the woman whom Drake referred to as having "average" sex with on "Fear Of Heights," another track from For All The Dogs. Rihanna, aged 35, currently boasts 14 No. 1 hits and if she finally releases her highly anticipated ninth album, that number will undoubtedly increase.
Mariah Carey and The Beatles hold the record for the most Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 songs. Mariah Carey has 19 No. 1 hits, while The Beatles have 20. Drake has also achieved numerous No. 1 songs, including collaborations such as "What's My Name" with Rihanna, "Work" with Rihanna, "One Dance" with Wizkid and Kyla, "God's Plan," "Nice For What," "In My Feelings," "Toosie Slide," "What's Next," "Way 2 Sexy" with Future and Young Thug, "Wait for U" with Future and Tems, "Jimmy Cooks" with 21 Savage, and "Slime You Out," his collaboration with SZA from the album For All The Dogs.
Jackson, who passed away in 2009 at the age of 50, achieved chart-topping success with songs like "Ben," "Don't Stop 'Till You Get Enough," "Rock With You," "Billie Jean," "Beat It," "Say Say Say" (featuring Paul McCartney), "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" (featuring Siedah Garrett), "Bad," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Man In The Mirror," "Dirty Diana," "Black or White," and "You Are Not Alone."
Interestingly, Drake may have 13 hits, but most of them have only spent one week at the top of the charts. Only "Work," "One Dance," "God's Plan," "Nice For What," and "In My Feelings" have spent more than one week at No. 1.
