Drake is responding strongly to the backlash he received for painting his nails a subtle shade of pink. In an Instagram post on Saturday, July 8, the 36-year-old rapper, known for his hit "Hotline Bling," expressed his indifference towards the criticism. He shared a photo of himself DJ'ing, proudly showcasing his well-groomed nails.
Lil Yachty swiftly added his thoughts in the comments, stating, "That guy has some seriously impressive earrings."
Drake promptly instructed the 25-year-old rapper to leave his comments, as he said, "You advised me to paint my nails to stop biting them, and now the world is showing homophobia for the first time since Rich Flex."
Drake released his song "Rich Flex" in November 2022, featuring 21 Savage. Some listeners speculated that he was flirting with his duet partner due to a particular lyric, "21, can you do somethin' for me?" However, neither Drake nor 21 Savage addressed these speculations at the time. On Saturday, Drake questioned whether the world was homophobic, expressing his disbelief. He also mentioned that "Rich Flex" was recently released.
Lil' Yachty responded to Drake's explanation in the comments, showing support for him. "Take it easy, brother. You're not supposed to have these outbursts in public, but it's all good," replied the Georgia native. "People just don't understand you, bro. You're different in a unique way!"
Drake sought the assistance of a manicurist from Tokyo Nails in Chicago, a studio known for their expertise in Japanese Gel polish, to intricately paint his fingernails.

The brand's Instagram post on July 2 declared, "The best I ever had," showcasing the completed look. Drake's choice featured a soft pastel pink backdrop adorned with a contrasting heart at the center of each nail.
Drake is not the only man who has experimented with manicures and pedicures. Other famous individuals like Machine Gun Kelly, Brooklyn Beckham, Darren Criss, and Harry Styles also enjoy having their fingernails painted.
In a December 2019 profile with The Guardian, Styles, 29, expressed his views on gendered clothing, stating, “What women wear. What men wear. For me, it's not a question of that. If I see a nice shirt and get told, ‘But it's for ladies,’ I think: ‘Okaaaay? Doesn't make me want to wear it less though.’ I think the moment you feel more comfortable with yourself, it all becomes a lot easier.’”
He expressed, "It involved a significant period of self-reflection and self-acceptance. It feels incredibly liberating and empowering. People are embracing the idea of 'Why not?' more and more, which is something I find really exciting. It's not just about fashion anymore; it's happening across various aspects of life. I see this phenomenon in music as well, where genres are merging."
