Drake expressed his frustration when a fan tossed an electronic cigarette onto the stage during his concert in NYC. In a TikTok video shared on Thursday, July 20, the rapper called out the fan, stating that it showed a lack of seriousness if they expected him to pick up the vape and vape with them at the Barclays Center. He further emphasized the need for the fan to re-evaluate their actions when they throw a lemon mint vape on stage.
The caption underneath the video posted on the official social media page of the indoor arena stated, "Please be reminded that vaping is not allowed inside Barclays Center."
While on his All a Blur Tour, Drake has encountered situations where concert attendees have thrown objects at him while he was performing. For instance, during his opening night in Chicago earlier this month, a fan threw their phone at him. However, in Montreal, Canada, two weeks later, the singer disclosed that he doesn't mind certain items being thrown at him, specifically mentioning undergarments.
Before I proceed with the next song, I would like to express my disappointment that this is the first stage where I do not have any bras. Please refrain from throwing shoes, phones, or any other objects. This problem of objects being hurled at artists on tour seems to be prevalent. Recently, Harry Styles was hit in the eye during a performance in Vienna, Austria, and Taylor Swift was startled by bracelets thrown at her while leaving a recent Eras Tour concert.
During her Heartfirst Tour in June, Kelsea Ballerini faced a disruption when a bracelet thrown by an audience member hit her on stage in Boise, Idaho. A video shared on Twitter captured the incident, showing Ballerini pausing her performance of “If You Go Down (I’m Going Down Too)” as her band members approached her to ensure she was okay. After a brief moment, Ballerini exited the stage.
Upon her return after a costume change, Ballerini addressed the incident. In a TikTok video documenting the concert, she started by acknowledging what had just unfolded. "Can we discuss what just occurred?" she asked. "My top priority is the safety of everyone. So, if you ever feel unsafe, please inform someone nearby. We have security all around tonight. If anyone is behaving inappropriately or if you have any gut instincts, always bring attention to it."
Just days after Bebe Rexha was struck in the face by a cell phone during a performance in NYC, an incident occurred. The day after, the 33-year-old singer shared a photo on Instagram showing her stitched-up injury and black eye, reassuring her followers that she was okay with a simple caption saying, "I'm good."
Nicolas Malvagna, the person responsible for throwing the phone, was arrested and charged with assault. During his arraignment on June 20, he claimed that he had been participating in a TikTok trend where people throw their phones at celebrities in hopes of getting a selfie before having it returned.
