Drake retaliated against Joe Budden with consecutive disses.
After dropping his latest album, For All the Dogs, the 36-year-old Drake found himself embroiled in a renewed feud with his long-time rival, 43-year-old Joe Budden. "I express gratitude for this life, where I am not compelled to make hasty judgments on Best Buy podcast microphones," Drake stated on Instagram on Monday, October 9. He accompanied his statement with a slideshow showcasing highlights from his It's All A Blur Tour.
Drake's caption appeared to address Budden's career as a podcast host, as well as his recent criticism of For All The Dogs, which was released on October 6. Budden shared his thoughts on the album during an episode of his podcast, expressing his longing for the "old" Drake who rapped for fellow artists. He noted that the current version of Drake seems to be focused on appealing to a younger audience and chasing commercial success, rather than creating music that resonates with mature listeners like himself.
However, Drake couldn't handle the criticism. In the comments section of an Instagram post shared by DJ Akademiks, Drake lashed out at Joe Budden, saying, "@joebudden you have failed at music. You abandoned [music] to pursue what you're currently doing in this clip because this is what actually pays your bills. Any artist watching this should bear in mind that they are observing a failure sharing their opinion on his idea of a recipe for success... a quitter expressing their views on how to achieve longevity."

Drake expressed his view that artists should not allow Budden's opinions to affect their mindset. He referred to Budden as the epitome of frustration and surrender, noting that he retired from rap without any significant accomplishments. Drake emphasized that Budden's presence in the rap industry is forgettable, and highlighted the contrast between their successes - with Drake owning a large jet and Budden only having a modest house and flying first class on rare occasions.
Budden's reaction to Drake's diss, on the other hand, was concise and impactful. On Akademiks' post, he simply stated, "You'll mature eventually. Father time always wins."
Budden's criticism of For All the Dogs resonated with numerous individuals, as the album received negative reviews from critics. Rolling Stone described it as an "aimless 84-minute album" where Drake appears "weary of his own persona." Pitchfork remarked that Drake "faces challenges in maintaining interest" throughout the album, while The Guardian highlighted the need for the "repetitive rap titan" to explore new approaches.

According to NME, the album lacked standout tracks and had a negative tone, possibly alluding to Drake dissing his former partner Rihanna. In the song "Fear of Heights," Drake shared that his sexual experiences with his 35-year-old ex were average, stating that he has been with more attractive women.
