To start the Genli's Home Cooking side quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players must journey to the Rito Village, situated at the center of Lake Totori. It's important to note that the village's frigid environment can be hazardous to Link's health, so it's recommended to wear the Archaic Warm Greaves or another form of cold protection. Once in the village, players will be tasked with obtaining a Staminoka Bass for a young Rito named Genli. This guide will provide information on how to locate and retrieve the necessary item.
There are various ways to reach Rito Village in Tears of the Kingdom. However, the most efficient routes, once unlocked, include fast traveling to the Rospro Pass Skyview Tower and gliding south or teleporting to the Gatakis Shrine at the foot of the village, provided it has been cleared. Once at the shrine's travel point, players can spot a small insert in the nearby cliff with a rock nestled inside. Checking under this rock will reveal a Korok. From this spot, Link can use the Ascend ability to quickly reach the bridges of Rito Village.
Once inside Rito Village, the player must find Genli and her friends, a group of young Rito who believe that their song will bring back the Legendary Stormwind Ark and save their village from the Regional Phenomena's effects. To locate them, players should travel to coordinates -3600, 1815, 0182, which will lead them to one of the village's lower ledges. Here, they will come across the three Rito children and should listen to their song. After the song, Genli will fly off to the nearby Slippery Falcon shop, located just up the hill, where she can be found engrossed in a recipe book.
Genli expresses her desire to prepare Fish Pie to Link, but unfortunately, the recipe calls for the rare Staminoka Bass, which has become increasingly difficult to acquire. This initiates the Genli's Home Cooking Side Quest, where Link must embark on a journey to find a single Staminoka Bass and deliver it back to Genli at the Rito Village.
To complete Genli's cooking aspirations, Link must diligently scour the surrounding areas in search of the elusive Staminoka Bass. Once found, he must carefully transport the fish back to Genli, ensuring its safe arrival.
In Tears of the Kingdom, players will have the opportunity to embark on this exciting culinary adventure and help Genli achieve her dream of making the perfect Fish Pie.
For those searching for Staminoka Bass, the ponds on the nearby Rito Village platforms won't yield any results even after thawing the ice. It's best to head to any river throughout Hyrule Field or other non-frozen regions instead.
One such location to search is a small river northeast of Carok Bridge at coordinates -0958, 0551, 0010, southeast of New Serenne Stable and far west of Hyrule Castle Town Ruins. After dealing with the Octoroks, players should be able to spot a few Staminoka Bass swimming in the thinner stretch of water that leads into the larger Regencia River.

To catch the fish easily, the player should enter the water ahead of them since the current is strong. Once a Staminoka Bass is caught, the player can teleport back to the shrine, Ascend to the Rito Village, and speak with Genli at The Slippery Falcon to complete the side quest. As a reward, Genli will give Link a Biting Simmering Fruit Dish that boosts his cold weather attack for five minutes.
