Craig Conover Reflects on Emotional What's Wrong With My Sewing Moment in Southern Charm

Southern Charm's Craig Conover reflects on the controversial 'What's Wrong With My Sewing' scene from season 5, admitting it still evokes a sense of sadness Despite facing criticism for his passion, Conover's emotional journey unfolds as viewers witness the impact it had on him

Southern Charm star Craig Conover has moved on from his ex-girlfriend Naomie Olindo's dig about his sewing skills, but it still hurts to watch it back. "It's ironic how I was the only one who saw the potential," the 34-year-old exclusively shared with Us during the latest episode of "Reliving Reality" while revisiting the unforgettable scene from season 5. "It was perplexing how so many people were invested in my life, even though it wasn't their own. I could never quite grasp it."

Craig chuckled and shook his head while sitting in the Us studio, observing a 2018 clip where Naomie, 31, jokingly accused him of only "sitting at home and sewing and pretending to do things." In response, Craig humorously questioned, "What's the issue with my sewing?" This quip has since become his motto and is now featured in his Sewing Down South line of pillows.

Looking back, Craig expressed a sense of humility when reflecting on how much he has achieved since Naomie attacked his passion. He described it as a source of happiness, imagining the store and the people who have the opportunity to visit it on King Street in Charleston. He emphasized his satisfaction in fulfilling his commitment.

The cohost of the "Pillows & Beer" podcast made a lighthearted comment about how he used to consume a significant amount of alcohol while filming, which contributed to his lack of memory of the intense scene. However, he clarified that he was fully aware of what had occurred and distinctly recalled feeling saddened not only by Naomie's criticism, but also by that of Cameran Eubanks and other members of the cast.

“I recall becoming melancholic as I watched those dogs eagerly chasing after their bones,” he shared with Us. “During that period, I felt a sense of loneliness because it seemed like I was the only one who truly understood my thoughts regarding the business. Thankfully, my parents were a source of support. However, soon thereafter, I made the decision to relocate to The Bahamas in search of self-discovery. As they say, everything happens for a reason.”

Due to his optimistic attitude and preference for sewing pillows rather than pursuing a career as a lawyer, Craig has become the renowned pillow maker in Charleston, South Carolina. In fact, he revealed that fans frequently approach him in town, exclaiming, "What's wrong with my sewing?"

Craig expressed his enthusiasm for this situation, emphasizing his enjoyment in doing something unique. He also mentioned that he never intended to rely heavily on a tagline or catchphrase, but it is evident that merchandise featuring the phrase "what's wrong with my sewing" can be found in his store.

Regarding Naomie, who Craig ended his three-year relationship with in 2017, she admitted that she acted inappropriately during that particular 2018 incident. "The way I expressed myself was harsh, but he said, 'It actually motivated me,'" Naomie exclusively revealed to Us in July 2022. "Not specifically that conversation, but some of the discussions we had, he said, 'It actually helped motivate me at times.'"

Naomie acknowledged that Craig's business has brought him a great sense of purpose, despite her initial criticism of his passion. She expressed her belief that it is beneficial for him.

Craig, who is currently in a relationship with Paige DeSorbo, informed Us that despite their tumultuous history, Naomie is still welcome to shop at Sewing Down South.
