Taking his doctor's warning about his health to heart, Chris Young made a serious commitment to losing weight and successfully shed 66 pounds. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 38-year-old country star revealed that his doctor had expressed concern for his current unhealthy state. Determined to maintain his successful career in music and continue traveling the world to perform, Young quickly realized the importance of prioritizing his well-being.
Young recognized the need to make immediate lifestyle adjustments to enhance his well-being.
"It was akin to the check engine light illuminating in your car. It signaled the urgency to address certain aspects," shared the artist.
Young discovered helpful tips for preparing nutritious meals through social media and initiated a fitness regimen with a personal trainer. Consequently, he is now able to incorporate his favorite foods into a healthier dietary plan.
"It involves a greater emphasis on meal preparation and being mindful of the calories-to-protein ratio in my food intake," Young elaborated. "Since I enjoy cooking, this approach has proven advantageous as I can now proactively plan and prepare meals that I genuinely enjoy for my on-the-go lifestyle."
The entertainer, standing at 6'4", had previously carried a weight of almost 300 pounds. However, over a span of six months, he managed to shed off 70 pounds, reaching a current weight of 230 pounds.
"This provides some insight into my previous condition, if you're able to calculate it, and it was not a positive state," Young remarked. "I dedicated considerable effort in achieving this transformation and now I feel more energetic when performing on stage. Being on the road no longer leaves me feeling exhausted, so overall, it's been a remarkable improvement."
Feeling more confident on red carpets and no longer relying on his hands to conceal his stomach is one of the positive aspects Young has experienced. He realized how far he had come when he mustered the courage to wear a white shirt for a music video, which he had previously avoided due to his weight. “I finally felt at ease,” he expressed, “which was a new sensation for me.”
Since his debut in 2006, Young has had a successful career, with three albums certified platinum and three certified gold by the RIAA. His latest release, Famous Friends, came out in 2021 and featured collaborations with Kane Brown, Lauren Alaina, Jimmie Allen, and Old Dominion. Young has already finished his next album, set to be released in 2024, and plans to continue his weight loss journey.
"It's not something I consider finished. I want to keep going and I genuinely enjoy going to the gym, especially with friends and my trainer. It has become a part of my daily routine now," commented Young.
