Three years later, Britney Spears posted a photo of the damage caused by the fire she accidentally started in her home gym. The image shows the floor and equipment covered in ash, with some items visibly charred. In her caption, she reflected on the incident, recalling the year 2020 when the fire occurred.
At 42 years old, Spears disabled the comment feature for the post.
This recent Instagram post from the pop star follows three years after she disclosed that her Los Angeles home had caught fire due to candles. "Hey everyone, I'm currently in my gym. I haven't been in here for about half a year because I accidentally burned it down," Spears shared in an Instagram video from April 2020. "I had two candles, and, well, one thing led to another and it went up in flames."
In the caption of the post, she shared more details about the accident, expressing gratitude that nobody got hurt and maintaining a positive attitude despite losing equipment. She also mentioned a preference for working out outdoors. A month later, the Ventura County Fire Department informed her that they had no record of any calls made about the house fire during that time period.
As a result of the incident, Britney’s sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, revealed to Entertainment Tonight that she has banned candles from her family’s home. “We don’t light candles in our house, because I’m not good with candles,” she said in May 2022. “So literally, we just decided, like, no candles. “So, I think that we can prevent any future fires.” (Jamie Lynn, 32, shares daughter Maddie, 15, with ex Casey Aldridge and daughter Ivey, 5, with husband Jamie Watson.)

In June 2020, Britney updated her fans on the progress of her gym renovations, showing them the gym she had burnt down and stating that it still was not yet fixed. She has been open with her fans about the changes in her personal life, including her recent split from husband Sam Asghari after 14 months of marriage.

"I've had ample time to reflect on the good and the bad, and I've come to realize that I don't speak kindly to myself. I'm easily influenced and wear my heart on my sleeve," Britney wrote alongside a photo of a nun sipping from a teacup with a straw on December 10. "But I am committed to changing that. I need to pause and re-evaluate my life and ask myself if it's truly beneficial for me."
She added, "The way I choose to live is my own. There have been so many people trying to meddle with that. But understanding that it's okay to prioritize my life and find joy in it is empowering!"
