John Stamos playfully teases his late 'Full House' co-star, Bob Saget, during an interview on the YouTube show 'Hot Ones' Stamos jokes about Saget's memorable episode and their enduring friendship

During his recent appearance on Hot Ones, John Stamos jokingly referenced a previous appearance by Bob Saget, stating "This is what got Saget," as he bravely consumed spicy wings, shedding tears in the process. (Saget had previously appeared on the show in November 2017.)

After the dark joke, Stamos explained that Saget "would have told that joke to me if he were still alive," and further emphasized, "He wouldn't have waited a year and a half either. He would have said the most terrible things."

Stamos and Saget co-starred in the cherished sitcom Full House from 1987 to 1995. Saget sadly passed away at the age of 65 in January 2022 after a stand-up comedy show in Florida. The cause of his death was later determined to be blunt head trauma resulting from an accidental fall in his Ritz Carlton hotel room.

Stamos expressed deep sorrow and shock upon hearing about his former costar's death. In a heartfelt tweet, he described his devastation and the irreplaceable bond he had with him. Stamos also shared that he believed Saget was unaware of the immense love people had for him. Reflecting on their friendship, Stamos mentioned how he sometimes imagines Saget observing everything from heaven and playfully scolding him for his statements.

Stamos kept Saget's memory alive during his appearance on Hot Ones by recounting an embarrassing incident from the early days of Full House. He recalled how he, Saget, and Dave Coulier once went to a strip club. While Saget initially hesitated due to his fame, Stamos reassured him and promised to handle the situation. However, their attempt to go unnoticed in the club was short-lived as word of their presence quickly spread.

During one of the show's first table reads, Stamos realized why the casting process for the kid roles was taking so long. However, despite this funny memory, he confessed that he wasn't always a fan of being on Full House. The show was initially pitched to him as Bosom Buddies with "a couple of kids in the background," which made him question the delay in casting for those roles. (Please note that "Bosom Buddies" is the title of another TV show and should be capitalized.)

“Jodie Sweetin, who portrays Stephanie, delivers her lines and the audience erupts in laughter, I mean, sheer pandemonium. I was left perplexed, asking myself, ‘What is going on here?’” he shared with Hot Ones host Sean Evans. “They were so consumed with laughter at her performance that they couldn't even catch a word of my own lines.”

After the table read, he immediately contacted his agent and demanded, "I want to leave this show immediately," although his perspective on the series evolved over time.

"For a while, I resisted and questioned my decision, but then it hit me," Stamos expressed. "What am I thinking? This is a remarkable show we have created, filled with warmth and compassion." He realized that the show lacked a main character, but instead, the essence revolved around love. "We were the ultimate embodiment of a loving family, unconventional in every sense. We represented the new definition of normal."
