Astonishing Revelations Unveiled in One Piece Episode 3: A Must-Watch!

The thrilling third episode of One Piece unfolds with a shocking revelation as the enigmatic butler's role in the grand scheme of things is finally unveiled, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats

In episode three of Netflix's One Piece, there is a significant moment that captures the essence of the series. It is the first time Luffy lays eyes on the Going Merry, the ship that holds great significance. The scene is beautifully presented, with the music and camera highlighting the iconic sheep figurehead. This moment appeals to both dedicated fans and newcomers, while also indulging in some fan service. Its success sets the tone for the rest of the series.

Directed by Emma Sullivan, episode 3 titled "Tell No Tales" showcases her talent. Sullivan is renowned for her acclaimed short film "After Tomorrow" and has also contributed to several episodes of Doctor Who. Joining returning writer Matt Owens is Damani Johnson, a writer and producer who has made notable contributions to Major Crimes.

After their encounter with Buggy the Clown, the Straw Hat Pirates embark on a quest for a thrilling new escapade. They swiftly realize that the stolen sloop, pilfered by Nami, is disintegrating. With little time to spare before reaching the nearest shore, they make their way to Gecko Island. Luffy is resolute in procuring an impeccable vessel for his crew - something that exudes grandeur, formidable power, and captivating adornment. Despite their lack of funds, Luffy forges a swift bond with a local laborer called Usopp. Usopp, well-acquainted with the shipyard owner, assures the Straw Hats of securing an audience with her. As their acquaintance with Usopp blossoms and they enter the opulent abode of the affluent owner, they stumble upon a clandestine plot that has the potential to upend the village.

Revised:

After the introduction of Luffy, Zoro, and Nami in the first episode, Usopp now gets his own spotlight. Although he is less insufferable compared to the original anime, toning down his negative traits may affect his appeal. Usopp is known for being a braggart who fabricates stories and exaggerates his achievements. In the anime, his arrogance and frequent lies were emphasized, leading to satisfying revelations of the truth. However, in the live-action series, the recurring joke of Luffy believing his every word while others see through him is missing, possibly due to time constraints. While Usopp's tragic backstory is revealed later, the audience gets to know him thoroughly before understanding why he behaves the way he does. In the live-action series, his behavior is explained in the same episode as his introduction, making him a more likable character. However, part of the enjoyment of Usopp's character is witnessing his growth into a better person. Perhaps in future episodes, they will showcase more of his negative traits, as toning down his personality dampens his overall interest.

This episode also introduces new villains. Klahadore, the comically obvious evil butler, is being set up for a confrontation in the upcoming episodes. Although his disguise is effective, the show does not hide his intentions from the audience. Again, due to time constraints, the gradual reveal of his scheme and the development of a believable facade are missing. Nonetheless, he remains a compelling villain, and his presence is genuinely menacing. However, a significant portion of his story arc is absent. Arlong briefly takes center stage in a secondary plot, offering the audience a glimpse of live-action fish-men. Their appearance is deeply unsettling. Despite impressive practical effects makeup, they stand out as odd among other characters dressed strangely. They seamlessly fit into the anime, which works for these villainous characters intended to be slightly frightening. However, it is difficult to envision how good-natured fish-men like Jinbe would be portrayed.

One Piece continues to function relatively well as an adaptation, however, it has begun implementing changes that are detrimental. While the omission of certain elements may enrage die-hard fans, it ultimately enhances the overall experience of the live-action series. There are other losses that evoke sadness but are not crucial to the narrative. In this episode, a death occurs that will elicit both sorrow and anger among viewers. The show effectively captures the varied tones of the original anime, which remains the utmost priority. The endeavor to create a live-action rendition of One Piece was always bound to be an arduous task. Despite its commendable performance, each episode uncovers more flaws in this ship's hull.
