Tears of the Kingdom, the sequel to Breath of the Wild, continues the tradition of an expansive and open Hyrule teeming with diverse characters. Alongside the primary storyline, players will discover numerous hidden side quests and objectives that may go unnoticed during their playthrough.
Delving into these optional side quests can yield exciting rewards and advantages for those who dare to explore. Uncover concealed game mechanics, uncover expanded realms, and even acquire extraordinary weapons and armor by embarking on these side quests. Ignoring them would mean missing out on countless hours of immersive gameplay in Tears of the Kingdom.
10 Hestu's Concerns
In Breath of the Wild, there is a recurring feature involving Hestu, a large Korok. Hestu can expand Link's inventory of bows, weapons, or shields in exchange for Korok seeds. In the Tears of the Kingdom quest, this mechanic transforms into a side quest named "Hestu's Concerns." The objective is to find Hestu in Hyrule and return a Korok seed to him.
Upon completing this side quest, players have the option to further enhance their inventory by offering an increasing number of Korok seeds. This becomes particularly advantageous later in the game when players face tougher bosses and explore the expansive Depths filled with formidable monsters.
9 Serenade To A Great Fairy
The Great Fairies from Breath of the Wild make a return in Tears of the Kingdom, and they offer to upgrade Link's armor using rare materials. In order to awaken these Great Fairies, players will need to find four of them. The first Great Fairy can be discovered at the Woodland Stable, where players can undertake the quest "Serenade to a Great Fairy."
To access this quest, Link must first complete a task for the Lucky Clover Gazette, investigating sightings of Zelda at various stables in Hyrule. At the Woodland Stable, Link will join forces with a musical troupe and assist them in traveling to the Great Fairy Fountain. Once there, they must play music to awaken the Great Fairy Tera, who will then be able to upgrade Link's armor.
8 A Deal With The Statue
Players must investigate Lookout Landing, one of the initial reachable areas in the game, for this enigmatic side quest. However, in order to engage in "A Deal with the Statue," players must first rescue Rito Village as a part of the "Regional Phenomena" main quest. Subsequently, they will gain access to intricate caves below Lookout Landing, where they will hear a mysterious voice beckoning them.
Trailing the voice, players will stumble upon a malevolent statue. This statue will propose a trade, exchanging a Heart Container for a Stamina Vessel, and vice versa, in exchange for rupees. This proves beneficial for players who require an enhancement in health or stamina during specific game segments, such as when Link needs to retrieve the Master Sword by utilizing two complete stamina wheels.
7 Hateno Research Lab
After assisting Josha in Lookout Landing, a venture that familiarizes players with the Depths, they will go on to assist Robbie in restoring his hot air balloon. Once repaired, Robbie returns to the Hateno Village Research Lab to continue his studies on the Purah Pad. By completing a series of tasks, players are able to upgrade their Purah Pad in various ways.
One of the upgrades that Robbie offers for the Purah Pad is a sensor that can detect Shrines. Another upgrade is the Travel Medallion, which empowers players to establish their own personalized fast-travel points. Additionally, there is a Hero's Path mode that visualizes Link's previously traversed locations in Hyrule. Each of these upgrades entails its own individual side quests, but they are highly valuable for dedicated players.
6 Misko's Treasure
In the game Tears of the Kingdom, there are several side quests called "Misko's Treasure" that offer fantastic rewards for die-hard Legend of Zelda fans. These quests are assigned by specific characters in Hyrule, but it is still possible to locate the treasures even without officially accepting each individual "Misko's Treasure" quest.
Discovering "Misko's Treasure" grants players a variety of rewards, such as different Armor sets. These sets include iconic outfits from past Zelda games like the Fierce Deity outfit, the Tingle set, and the Link's Awakening HD set. Additionally, players can obtain useful armors like the Rubber Armor or Climbing Gear, which prove valuable for exploring the vast land of Hyrule.
5 A New Champion's Tunic
Princess Zelda's home in Hateno Village provides players with the opportunity to read her journal. Within the journal, players discover that within the throne room of Hyrule Castle, Zelda has concealed a superior version of Link's renowned blue Champion's Tunic. By initiating the side quest "A New Champion's Tunic," players must venture into Hyrule Castle to face the challenges it presents.
Upon completion of the quest and obtaining the new Champion's Tunic, players enhance their armor collection with a formidable chest piece. However, to further upgrade it, players must obtain scales from the Light Dragon. Achieving this requires completing the geoglyph quest assigned by Impa, which also offers its own unique benefits.
4 Mattison's Independence
After spending a significant amount of time playing Breath of the Wild, players are likely to recall their involvement in establishing Tarrey Town through several side quests. However, as depicted in Tears of the Kingdom, the town faces personal issues despite flourishing. Consequently, players are tasked with the "Mattison's Independence" side quest, which involves reconciling Mattison with her father, Hudson.
Completing the quest not only rewards players with 200 rupees but also grants access to numerous services within Tarrey Town. One such service is provided by Rhondson, Mattison's mother, who assists in constructing a house for Link through the "Home on Arrange" side quest. Additionally, undertaking other side quests in Tarrey Town allows Link to gain insight into the lives of its citizens.
3 Infiltrating The Yiga Clan
The Yiga Clan, featured in Breath of the Wild, plays a key role in various quests in Tears of the Kingdom. One particularly significant quest, "Infiltrating the Yiga Clan," tasks Link with collecting scattered pieces of the Yiga Clan's armor set across Hyrule. Obtaining this armor grants access to their secretive hideout.
The armor pieces are located in different areas of Hyrule. The chest piece can be found in Akkala, the legs near Korok Forest, and the mask close to Lake Hylia. Once the successful infiltration of the Yiga Clan is accomplished, players unlock access to shops, a room for constructing vehicles, and a challenging activity, rewarding them with a new attack ability and the Lightning Helm.
2 Ruffian-Infested Village
To initiate the quest "Ruffian-Infested Village," players must locate Rozel and Bolson near Lurelin Village. These two individuals express their distress about the village being infested with monsters. Taking on the quest, Link assumes the responsibility of eliminating the monsters to facilitate the village's reconstruction. The level of difficulty in this battle depends on the player's progress in the game.
By successfully completing the "Ruffian-Infested Village" quest, players unlock subsequent side quests that involve assisting in the restoration of Lurelin Village to its former splendor. Noteworthy attractions in Lurelin Village include a shop specializing in monster parts, an inn that replenishes health, and villagers who occasionally reward Link with extra fish or discovered treasures.
1 A Call From The Depths
Some players who have a sense of nostalgia may find themselves embarking on their early adventures in Tears of the Kingdom by exploring the Great Plateau. During their exploration, they will come across the Goddess Statue located in the ruins of the Temple of Time. This statue offers a clue to encourage players to venture into the Depths beneath the Great Plateau. This journey will involve utilizing Zonai technology to navigate through the Depths.
By successfully traversing the Depths in the correct direction, players will eventually come across a colossal Bargainer Statue. This statue will generously reward players with either an additional Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel. Furthermore, the Bargainer Statue will then allow players to trade Poes for various items such as Bomb Flowers or pieces of the Dark Tunic set.
