With the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a dedicated gamer took it upon themselves to create a stunning custom wooden game case to commemorate the occasion. Sharing their impressive craftmanship on social media, other players of Tears of the Kingdom were quick to offer praise for the attention to detail in the design.
Tears of the Kingdom, the latest addition to The Legend of Zelda series, has been applauded for its expansion of the Breath of the Wild universe and has received high critical acclaim from various media outlets, boasting an impressive OpenCritic score of 97. In just the first few days of its release, Tears of the Kingdom has sold over 10 million units worldwide, both in physical and digital formats. However, like other Nintendo Switch games with physical copies, the standard game case for Tears of the Kingdom left something to be desired. One fan stepped up to the challenge and took matters into their own hands.
On the Reddit platform, an Australian user by the name of FrigginBoomT has impressively crafted a wooden game case for Tears of the Kingdom, showcasing his finished work on the r/gaming subreddit. FriggenBoomT revealed that the case was created using two hand-held rectangular planks of wood, and a rotary power tool was employed to carve the Ultrahand ability symbol, along with some Zonai glyphs, at the center of the top piece. He then intricately carved some cracks within the case's interior and created a rectangular slot to perfectly fit the game card. For added protection, the slot was lined with felt material. The wood was given an aged appearance using weathering and sanding techniques, and the case was held together by hinges on both sides.
FriggenBoomT's post on r/gaming garnered an impressive 68k upvotes within just one day. The extremely skilled artist has previously created a wooden Pokémon card cabinet, featuring Rayquaza, among other aged-wood products. His latest creation has received many accolades from fellow Redditors, with some comments even comparing his work to the covers of Morrowind and Oblivion from The Elder Scrolls series. FriggenBoomT has mentioned that he is currently open for commissions.
While previous wooden tributes to The Legend of Zelda franchise have been crafted, such as the King of Red Lions from The Wind Waker, FriggenBoomT's latest masterpiece showcases the unwavering passion and ingenuity of Zelda enthusiasts worldwide. As Tears of the Kingdom continues to gain momentum and emerge as one of the top selling games of all time, it's exciting to ponder what other remarkable creations await. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is currently available for the Nintendo Switch.
