Zelda player creates Metal Gear REX using new mechanic

A Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player ingeniously uses the Ultrahand ability and Zonai devices to construct the iconic Metal Gear REX within the game, showcasing the game's endless potential for creative gameplay

A creative player in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has taken player creativity to the next level by constructing the iconic Metal Gear REX using the game's "Ultrahand" ability. Breath of the Wild and its sequel have already seen players use unique methods to push the game's mechanics to their limits, from solving tricky Korok puzzles to surviving powerful attacks. However, the new Ultrahand ability has provided an incredible source of inspiration for Zelda players, allowing them to fuse various objects found in the game's wilderness and create unique creations, made even more powerful with the new Zonai devices. Some players have even flown airplanes and constructed giant machines to defeat enemies. Now, a Zelda player has brought the iconic mecha into the Kingdom of Hyrule.

Twitter user uran120 has created an astounding re-creation of the iconic Metal Gear REX in Tears of the Kingdom. The towering mecha is a tribute to the Metal Gear Solid franchise and uses several of the game's Zonai devices, including fans, carts, and cannons, to capture the look of the recognizable machine. The user also shared a video of the mech in action, showcasing the devices in motion and the cannon at the mech's tip firing. Despite its impressive appearance, the colossal machine is not able to move on its own. This tribute comes at a timely moment, following recent announcements during Wednesday's PlayStation Showcase. Along with a compilation of the first three Metal Gear Solid titles, Sony revealed a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. While the release date for the remake has not been confirmed, the compilation is set to launch later this year.

Metal Gear REX's appearance in Tears of the Kingdom showcases the game's inventive use of Zonai devices, which offer players an array of new transportation tools such as wheels, fans, and rockets. The game's vehicle mechanics have been a particular hit with players, with some even crafting a fully functional TIE Fighter from Star Wars. This integration of Metal Gear REX into the latest Zelda installment exemplifies the limitless creative possibilities of Tears of the Kingdom's innovative gameplay mechanics.
