WoW Introduces Azeroth-Wide Dragonriding and NPC Follower Dungeons in Highly-Anticipated 2024 Update

The first update of 2024 for World of Warcraft is on the horizon, and despite being labeled as a "minor" patch, it will introduce some significant new features to Blizzard's MMORPG.

Seeds of Renewal, WoW's next update, is set to launch on January 16. Update 10.2.5 will introduce Dragonflight's dragonriding flight system to all of Azeroth, fulfilling a long-standing player request since its debut in the Alpha test. Additionally, it will enable players to tackle normal difficulty dungeons with NPC followers, providing an opportunity for newer or inexperienced players to sharpen their skills before joining groups with real players.

The features of follower dungeons and the ability to dragonride everywhere are major inclusions that, in previous years, would have been part of a significant content patch or a completely new expansion, rather than a minor .5 update. However, Seeds of Renewal will also introduce new story quests that will involve the Worgen reclaiming the fallen kingdom of Gilneas, along with new character customization options for Trolls, Draenei, and Warlock demons. Additionally, the update will bring back one of Dragonflight's new events, the Azerothian Archives.

Seeds of Renewal is the first update mentioned on Blizzard's 2024 content roadmap for WoW. Subsequent updates include a mysterious, potentially pirate-themed 10.2.6 patch later in the winter or early spring, a Dragonflight Season 4 that will remix the expansion's raids later in the spring, and the release of WoW's next expansion, The War Within, later in the year. The expansion's pre-patch, which will introduce anticipated features like the new account-wide Warband system, is set to arrive ahead of the expansion's launch sometime this summer.

The War Within is the inaugural expansion in The Worldsoul Saga series, marking the start of a new era for WoW with Blizzard aiming to release future expansions at a faster pace than the usual two-year cadence. Additionally, in Summer 2024, Blizzard will re-release the Classic version of the Cataclysm expansion. For those who enjoy the original version of WoW, the Season of Discovery offers new role-defining class abilities and level-up raids for a fresh take on the long-running MMO.

As a hard fan of World of Warcraft, I am thrilled about the upcoming Seeds of Renewal update. The introduction of Azeroth-wide dragonriding is something I've been eagerly waiting for since the feature was first introduced in Dragonflight. Being able to soar through the skies of Azeroth on my dragon mount will add a whole new level of excitement and freedom to exploring the world. I can't wait to rediscover familiar zones and experience them from a new perspective.

The addition of NPC Follower Dungeons is another fantastic feature that will greatly benefit newer and less experienced players. It provides a safe and controlled environment for them to learn the mechanics of dungeons and improve their skills before venturing into group content with real players. This will not only help new players feel more confident and prepared but also reduce the burden on experienced players who often have to carry less skilled group members.
