World of Warcraft Shocks Players with the Removal of Infamous Quest

World of Warcraft responds to community feedback by removing a highly debated quest, addressing concerns and ensuring a more inclusive gaming experience

Blizzard has made the decision to remove a controversial quest line from its upcoming update, Fractures in Time, due to concerns raised by World of Warcraft players on social media. In this update, players will encounter Time Rifts scattered across the Dragon Isles and will eventually face the Dawn of the Infinite mega-dungeon. While time travel is not a new concept in the game, Blizzard has still explored various scenarios that could have occurred in the game's main timeline or never materialized. However, the Bronze Dragonflight's commitment to maintaining one "true timeline" means that certain events must unfold, regardless of their negative consequences. Nevertheless, this rule does not necessarily mean that players would be willing to assist in certain historical moments.

One quest line involving Alexstrasza's captivity during the Second War was removed from the public test realm (PTR) for Fractures in Time. If this quest had remained, World of Warcraft players would have accompanied Chromie on a mission to the Second War, where they would have assisted the Dragonmaw Clan in imprisoning Alexstrasza. During this period, Alexstrasza herself endured torture, assault, and the forced hatching of dragon eggs for the Horde's use. The Horde, under the control of Gul'dan and the Burning Legion, was responsible for these atrocities. However, the dragons eventually broke free during the Battle of Grim Batol, forcing the Dragonmaw to flee.

On social media, many World of Warcraft players expressed their unease with the idea of their characters potentially aiding the Dragonmaw Clan in imprisoning a beloved character like Alexstrasza. Blizzard community manager Bornakk addressed these concerns in a forum post, confirming that the quest would be removed from future PTR builds. He also acknowledged that internal discussions and player feedback played a significant role in this decision.

World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
