Griselda is based on the real-life story of the notorious Colombian drug lord, known as the "Godmother of Cocaine" in the 1980s. Creator Eric Newman shared with Netflix that Griselda stood out to him as a compelling character during his research for Narcos. He emphasized his commitment to humanizing complex individuals, including those labeled as evil, and saw Griselda as both a significant challenge and opportunity for that.

"Few women have ever come close to achieving the level of power, wealth, and respect that Griselda did. And no trafficker, male or female, has ever inspired the same level of fear," Newman added. "Griselda's story of ascent and downfall is unlike anything we've seen before. It's thrilling, emotional, humorous, chilling, and tragic. Griselda is the ultimate antihero, a series of contradictions in conflict with herself."

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z netizen, I am eagerly anticipating the release of "Griselda" on Netflix. Sofia Vergara's transformation from comedic roles to a dramatic portrayal of a notorious drug lord has me intrigued. The fact that the series is based on a real-life figure adds an extra layer of fascination. I appreciate the creator's intention to humanize complex individuals, even those considered evil. The series promises to be a thrilling and emotional journey, and I can't wait to binge-watch all six episodes on January 25th.

However, I also recognize the importance of responsible storytelling when it comes to sensitive topics like drug trafficking and violence. I hope that "Griselda" will handle these aspects with sensitivity and avoid glorifying criminal activities. It's crucial to strike a balance between entertainment and ethical storytelling, and I trust that Netflix will approach this series with the necessary care and consideration.
