In her upcoming memoir, The Woman in Me, Britney Spears, 41, reveals more about the aftermath of the abortion she underwent while in a relationship with Justin Timberlake, 42. Spears recalls that Timberlake tried to console her by playing music as she wept on the bathroom floor.
Earlier this week, Spears disclosed in a book excerpt that she conceived a child during her relationship with Timberlake, which spanned from 1999 to 2002. In the published extract on October 17 by People, Spears wrote, "However, Justin was clearly displeased with the pregnancy. He expressed that we were ill-prepared to raise a child, citing our youth as a major factor."
Additionally, Spears revealed her choice to terminate the pregnancy since her partner at the time was not prepared to embrace fatherhood.

"I anticipate that there will be those who harbor animosity towards me for what I am about to express, but I have come to an agreement to not proceed with the pregnancy," she conveyed. "Though I am uncertain if this choice is the correct one. If the decision rested solely upon me, I would have never gone through with it. Nevertheless, Justin was resolute in his conviction of not desiring fatherhood."
Subsequently, Spears proceeded to embrace motherhood, giving birth to her sons, Preston and Sean, who are currently 18 and 17 respectively, with her former spouse Kevin Federline, from whom she finalized her divorce in 2007.
Timberlake and Spears were just teenagers, 17 and 18, when their relationship started. They first met on the set of The All-New Mickey Mouse Club as kids. However, their romance came to an end in 2002, and Timberlake insinuated in his single "Cry Me a River" that Spears had been disloyal during their time together.
After the documentary Framing Britney Spears was released in 2021, Justin Timberlake publicly expressed remorse for his presumed involvement in perpetuating the harmful portrayal of Spears during the period following their breakup.
"I deeply regret my actions that contributed to the problem and times when I spoke out of turn or failed to stand up for what was right," he expressed in a statement posted on Instagram in February 2021. Acknowledging the inherent flaws in the industry, particularly favoring white men, Timberlake recognized his shortcomings in supporting Spears and still holds respect for her. Taking responsibility as a privileged man, he emphasized the importance of speaking out and learning from his past ignorance, vowing to never profit from others' suffering again. Striving for improvement, he is committed to doing better.
