Warning! This article contains spoilers for Ahsoka episode 3.
Summary
Sabine's Jedi training disrupts the long-standing animosity between Mandalorians and Jedi, offering a refreshing and unconventional perspective.
Joining the ranks of Tarre Vizsla and a select few Mandalorians who have embraced the Jedi path, it becomes evident that the convergence of these two cultures is indeed possible.
While the Mandalorian Knights' story is categorized as Legends, there are instances in the current canon where Jedi have become Mandalorians, as demonstrated by Grogu in The Mandalorian. This opens the possibility for a deeper exploration of this dynamic in future episodes.
In Ahsoka, Sabine Wren's Jedi training showcases a Mandalorian embracing the path of a Jedi. However, there have also been cases in the Star Wars universe where Jedi have chosen to become Mandalorians. The revelation of Sabine as Ahsoka's Padawan came as a surprise to viewers, considering her strong connection to her Mandalorian heritage. Mandalorians have historically viewed Jedi as their ancient enemies, engaging in numerous conflicts throughout history. Mandalorian armor and weapons have even been specially crafted to counter Jedi abilities, featuring lightsaber-resistant beskar and flamethrowers. Therefore, the idea of a Mandalorian like Sabine training as a Jedi is rare yet intriguing.
The Mandalorian Knights Were Jedi Who Became Mandalorian
Other Mandalorians have also transitioned into the life of a Jedi. One notable example is Tarre Vizsla, the Mandalorian Jedi credited with the creation of the Darksaber. Additionally, Huyang, in Ahsoka episode 3, mentions that a select few Mandalorians have pursued Jedi training, joining the ranks of Tarre and Sabine. It is worth noting that beyond the official canon, there have been instances where Jedi have embraced the Mandalorian way of life as well. The Mandalorian Knights, a faction consisting of former Jedi Masters and Knights, made a decision to leave the Jedi Order in order to embrace the Mandalorian way of life during the Mandalorian Wars. This choice was influenced by Jedi High Council member Dorjander Kace, who identified corruption within the Galactic Republic at that time. Consequently, they aligned themselves with Mandalore the Ultimate's Neo-Crusaders and fought against the Jedi Order in the war. Eventually, they were commanded to surrender and faced a trial on the Core Worlds. Interestingly, their lightsabers were of an orange hue, just like Baylan Skoll's and Shin Hati's in Ahsoka.

Did This Ever Happen In Star Wars Canon?
Although the Mandalorian Knights story is considered Legends, it is possible that a Jedi has also become a Mandalorian in the current canon. Currently, there haven't been any named Jedi who have made this transition, but the closest example is Grogu from The Mandalorian series. While Grogu, who was an apprentice and adopted son of Din Djarin, never officially became a Jedi Knight, he did receive Jedi training at the Temple on Coruscant before and during the Clone Wars. During this time, he was mentored by esteemed masters like Yoda himself. Additionally, Grogu received further training from Luke Skywalker on Ossus. Ultimately, Luke presented Grogu with a decision that led him to abandon the Jedi path and instead choose to stay with his father and the Mandalorians.
As Grogu continues his training as a Mandalorian, it would be beneficial for Din or someone close to them to discover more instances of Jedi who have also become Mandalorians. Ahsoka can serve as inspiration for Sabine, as she has Tarre Vizsla as a Mandalorian Jedi to look up to. Additionally, there are other Mandalorians mentioned by Huyang who have become Jedi. The convergence of these two cultures in individuals is always intriguing, particularly given their history of conflict in the Star Wars universe. After enduring the devastating trials brought on by the Clone Wars, the work that Sabine and Grogu undertake can demonstrate the immense strength of both Jedi and Mandalorians, especially when they unite.
