A Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player had an unfortunate encounter with a glitch that caused them to fall beneath the game map when using an Ancient Blade on an enemy. Typically, the Ancient Blade would cause the enemy to disappear, but in this case, the opposite occurred for this unfortunate player.
Since the release of Tears of the Kingdom, the game has been plagued with more glitches than any other installment in the Zelda series. Players have discovered various glitches that allow them to defeat enemies with a single strike, surf through the air with their shield indefinitely, generate endless rupees by selling glitched frozen meat, and much more. However, the most infamous glitch of them all has been the duplication glitch, which gave players the ability to create multiple copies of any weapon or item until the game developers patched it to remove this fan-favorite exploit. While most bugs in the game are usually advantageous to the player, this recent incident serves as a reminder that not every glitch encountered in the game is a beneficial one.
A Reddit user named DemonSlayerfan1352 recently encountered a glitch while playing Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. While exploring a cave, they came across a Like Like, one of the game's most frustrating enemies. Instead of using a regular weapon to deal with it, the player chose to throw an Ancient Blade at the monster in hopes of defeating it in a single blow. However, the outcome was quite unexpected. Upon hitting the Like Like with the Ancient Blade, the protagonist, Link, ended up taking damage himself and fell through the ground, disappearing below the map.
In Tears of the Kingdom, the Ancient Blade is highly prized as a material for weapon enhancement. When fused with a weapon, it adds an impressive +50 points of additional damage. When used with an arrow, the Ancient Blade can make the enemy it's aimed at vanish, much like the Ancient Arrows in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Obtaining an Ancient Blade in Tears of the Kingdom is quite rare, with some players yet to come across one. However, by completing the side quest "Ancient Blades Below," players have the opportunity to purchase this elusive item, which is definitely worth it considering its immense damage potential.
In the video's comments section, a player provided the most plausible explanation for the occurrence of the Tears of the Kingdom glitch. According to the commenter, when Link sustains damage, his collision box exhibits peculiar characteristics. By sheer chance, the necessary conditions aligned after Link was harmed, causing him to pass through the ground beneath the game's map.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can be played on the Nintendo Switch console.
