Recently, HoYoverse shared some old concept art of Welt Yang, showcasing the character's gradual evolution from Honkai Impact 3rd. The final design of Welt Yang was later reused for Honkai: Star Rail, the latest installment in HoYoverse's Honkai series, which was released in April.

Honkai Impact 3rd, developed by HoYoverse (formerly known as miHoYo), is their third game. It was first released in China in late 2016 and reached the Western market 18 months later. This game shares some characters with Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, the latest game from HoYoverse.

One of those familiar faces is Welt Yang, also known as Mr. Welt, who makes appearances in both Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai: Star Rail. In a recent blog post, HoYoverse unveiled Mr. Welt's fourth iteration, shedding light on his previous three versions as well. Initially, the studio aimed to emphasize his maturity and composed demeanor, resulting in a predominantly black outfit that was notably darker compared to his final depiction.

HoYoverse's initial revision of Welt focused on highlighting his elegance, resulting in a variety of colors and a longer, more formal jacket. Subsequent redesigns made his coat darker and added a gray scarf. The final design featured a sleek gray coat, conveying a sense of pragmatism through casual attire in addition to formal wear.

Although Welt's backstory was extensively explored in the Honkai Impact 3rd manga, he doesn't make an appearance in the RPG until mid-game. However, due to his popularity or other reasons, HoYoverse decided to give him more screen time and enhance his overall abilities in their latest game. As a result, Honkai: Star Rail teams with Welt are considered some of the most well-rounded squads that players can form.

Playing Honkai Impact 3rd can enhance the gameplay experience in Honkai: Star Rail, but it is not necessary to enjoy HoYoverse's latest game. Unlike its predecessor, Honkai: Star Rail adopts a turn-based combat system instead of the ARPG gameplay loop, providing a unique and distinct experience. Both games, Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai: Star Rail, can be played on PC and mobile devices.
