Players can embark on a challenging side quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom by venturing into the South Lomei Labyrinth, located on the eastern edge of Gerudo Desert. Upon reaching coordinates -1794, -3333, 0072, players will find themselves at the entrance of the labyrinth, which sits within a canyon and may be difficult to spot from the ground. However, following the map will lead players to "The South Lomei Prophecy" and a series of obstacles that must be conquered in order to obtain the coveted Evil Spirit Mask. To reach the labyrinth, players can either travel southeast from the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower or fast travel to the nearby Kitawak Shrine and venture southwest.
Near a stone tablet written in the Zonai language, players will stumble upon a small research camp as they approach the labyrinth. The tablet's text has been translated and transcribed into a notebook on the table, promising a reward for those who conquer the challenges of the maze.
As players peruse the notebook, they'll discover that a previous researcher who explored the labyrinth had used acorns and nuts to mark their path. These clues may prove useful for those seeking to navigate the maze successfully.
Players can utilize a Korok-Frond Guster located beneath the tent to clear sand piles within the labyrinth, which may conceal valuable weapons and treasures.
In addition, players can craft a gusting weapon by combining any weapon with a Korok Frond or any other flat object, such as a tile or board, using the Fuse ability.
While the researcher's trail follows the highlighted path on the map, players are encouraged to explore off the beaten path to discover hidden chests and follow trails of nuts and acorns. However, they must be prepared for the extreme weather conditions in Gerudo, as Link may face both sweltering heat and freezing cold while navigating the labyrinth.
(Note: The fragment number and placeholders have been excluded as per the instructions.)
Players will encounter a significant amount of Gloom obstructing their path in the South Lomei Labyrinth. They can either devise innovative methods to traverse it without incurring Gloom Damage or simply sprint through it if they have sufficient health, as the Gloom Damage will gradually dissipate while on the surface. Eventually, they will stumble upon the researcher's final notebook before descending into the chamber below, where the Motsusis Shrine looms opposite a stone Zonai terminal.
Upon activating the terminal, Link will be thrown into "The South Lomei Prophecy" where a voice claiming to be the ruler of boars will greet him. The voice will then instruct Link to seek out a floating labyrinth and locate the unlocked door to proceed with the challenges. Don't forget to use the South Lomei Labyrinth Shortcut to your advantage.
Instead of navigating through the labyrinth, players have the option to head to the roof and follow the star marked on the map. Jumping down to the corridor at -1773, -3470, 0071 will allow players to skip a large portion of the maze and end up near the end of the researcher's trail.
To reach the South Lomei Castle Top Floor, players can visit the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower and launch Link high into the sky. The entrance to the floating labyrinth is located at the coordinates -1795, -3295, 1011.
While it's possible to reach the labyrinth with the paraglider and some Tulin boosts, building a flying machine at the East Gerudo Sky Archipelago is a much easier option.
Players can discover pre-assembled flying machines and Zonai devices on the floating island, which they can use to create their own. To successfully navigate the trip, players should carry a few Zonai Charges if they are low on Energy Cells.
Once players reach the island, they can easily spot the Siyamotsus Shrine located outside the South Lomei Castle Top Floor. Landing nearby is recommended to avoid any unnecessary obstacles.
By activating the Zonai terminal across from the shrine, players will once again hear the enigmatic voice speaking to Link.
The boar ruler will task Link with locating and activating an additional four terminals within the walls of the South Lomei Castle Top Floor. Once completed, the maze door will unlock. Players can refer to the map above to determine the most efficient route through the labyrinth to reach each terminal. Despite the lack of a solid floor, Link can utilize the low gravity and strong updraft to navigate the corridors. Along the way, there are various platforms available for players to rest and recover their stamina.
Players can encounter a few obstacles in the form of walls that block their progress through the passageways of the labyrinth. However, with the ability to drop their paraglider and pass underneath, players can easily overcome these barriers. Once they reopen the paraglider, Link will be lifted back into the air, ensuring that players remain on track as long as they don't pass below the bottom edge of the labyrinth.
Alternatively, players can choose to use Ascend or Zonai devices to reach the roof of the South Lomei Castle Top Floor and make their way to the end locations on the map. From there, they can drop down to the terminals below and activate all four to reveal a final Zonai terminal at the top of the structure. Once activated, the gusts of wind will intensify, providing players with the perfect opportunity to use their paraglider and ride the winds all the way up to the top.
In addition to exploring the rooftop, it's important for players to obtain the Big Battery Zonai Device from the chest located in the center.
Upon activating the terminal, a voice will prompt Link to demonstrate his bravery by venturing into The Depths and navigating its labyrinth.
To reach The Depths, players must jump from the designated platform and descend directly downwards.
:
Upon receiving instructions from the mysterious voice, players can now access the South Lomei Depths Labyrinth by diving from the top of the South Lomei Castle Top Floor. The door covering the chasm has been opened, allowing players to venture into the depths of the labyrinth. However, it is important to note that the dive will lead to near complete darkness, so it is recommended to bring a Zonai Light or Brightblooms to illuminate the area.
After making their way down, players will come face to face with a formidable foe - the Flux Construct III. Positioned in the very center of the room, defeating this enemy is crucial to progress further. Once victorious, players can activate a nearby terminal, where they will receive a final message from the ruler of the boars. The voice will congratulate Link on his success and reveal a chest containing the coveted Evil Spirit Mask, emerging from the floor.
As "The South Lomei Prophecy" quest draws to a close, players can venture further into the underground labyrinth to discover hidden treasures, including elusive Poes and powerful Zonai weapons.
Upon reaching the summit, players can activate the Sisustom Lightroot, illuminating the surrounding area within The Depths.
What about the Evil Spirit Mask?
The Evil Spirit Mask is a key component of the Evil Spirit Armor Set, inspired by Phantom Ganon's appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Wearing the mask alone grants Link one level of stealth, but when combined with the other pieces of the set, he becomes disguised against most Stal enemies and gains proficiency with bone weapons.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
