This artiicle contains spoilers for Ahsoka episode 6.
Summary
Ahsoka is believed to be resurrecting Abeloth, the fearsome antagonist from Star Wars Legends, possibly making her the ultimate villain in this chilling theory.
Driven by the belief that Peridea possesses the pivotal element to permanently alter the equilibrium of the Force, Baylan Skoll feels compelled to heed the beckoning of a formidable presence emanating from there.
In Star Wars, the prospect of Abeloth's return is incredibly exciting as she surpasses any known force in terms of power, making her an ideal adversary for Ahsoka. A compelling theory circulating within Star Wars fandom suggests that Ahsoka may be responsible for resurrecting Abeloth, who represents the epitome of darkness. The Ahsoka Disney+ series revolves around the pursuit of Grand Admiral Thrawn, an unparalleled villain within the Star Wars universe. While most foes draw strength from the dark side of the Force, Thrawn distinguishes himself through his tactical brilliance. Finally, in episode 6 of Ahsoka, portrayed by Lars Mikkelsen, Thrawn makes his much-anticipated live-action debut.
Despite the excitement surrounding Thrawn's return, it seems that Star Wars is engaging in a bait-and-switch tactic, as Thrawn may not be the true villain after all. Baylan Skoll, portrayed by Ray Stevenson, has his own hidden agenda and views Thrawn as a means to achieve his goals. He believes that once he reaches Peridea, he will discover something else. Being trained by the Jedi, Baylan is familiar with the legends of Peridea and firmly believes that he can alter the destiny of the galaxies through this mission. According to a new Star Wars theory, Baylan has journeyed to Peridea with the purpose of locating a formidable being from Star Wars Legends, who represents the most dangerous dark side adversary the Jedi have ever encountered.
Baylan Skoll Believes Peridea Is The Key To Changing The Balance Of The Force Forever
Baylan maintains secrecy with his apprentice Shin Hati by providing her only with essential information. In episode 6 of Ahsoka, he briefly reveals his beliefs about the ongoing cycle of light and dark in galactic history, which he thinks has persisted for countless years. With Peridea as the starting point of this cycle, Baylan hopes to discover a solution to break it permanently.
Despite the potential risk of being stranded in Peridea, Baylan displays no concern as he believes it to be the epicenter of significant events. He senses a strong presence beckoning him and it is likely this that compelled him to align with Morgan Elsbeth. Furthermore, Baylan is confident that the Nightsisters possess knowledge about the unfolding events in Peridea. He holds the belief that Thrawn and the Grand Mothers are fleeing from a power that surpasses their own.
Is Baylan Sensing Something That Has Called Out To Others?
It is possible that Baylan is not the only one who feels this calling. In Chuck Wendig's "Aftermath" trilogy, one of Palpatine's advisors also sensed something beckoning him through the Force. The Emperor believed it originated from the Unknown Regions, leading him to explore that vast expanse. However, it is plausible that the source may be from even farther away. If that is true, then the limited information Palpatine shared with his advisors implies that Baylan is seeking a profoundly ominous presence.
According to Palpatine, there exists an uncharted infinity beyond the known galaxy. This realm is sealed off by a complex network of solar storms, unpredictable magnetospheres, black holes, gravity wells, and other inexplicable phenomena. Any attempts to navigate this enigmatic maze have resulted in failure. Ships were either destroyed or returned to the galaxy devoid of their crew. The communications received from these explorers were either incomprehensible, plagued by overwhelming static that rendered the content useless, or filled with nonsensical ramblings indicating that the explorers had succumbed to madness in their isolation.
Is Star Wars Bringing Back Abeloth, Legends' Most Powerful Dark Side Being?
It's possible that the entity Baylan has detected is also manipulating Sabine, distorting her through the Force. This could potentially explain Sabine's growing urgency to find Ezra and suggest that her betrayal of Ahsoka was influenced by an external force. In episode 6 of Ahsoka, the Grand Mothers - Aktropaw, Klothow, and Lakesis - are named after the three Fates of Greek mythology (Atropos, Clotho, and Lachesis, respectively). They discussed the concept of the "thread of destiny," and Huyang also hinted to Ahsoka that, for Sabine, surrendering the starmap to Peridea was the only viable option. It is conceivable that a malevolent presence is manipulating events, exerting its control over others to secure its release from Peridea.
As Star Wars enthusiasts delve into the franchise's extensive past, they eagerly search for clues regarding the enigmatic dark side power. One unsettling possibility that arises is the reintroduction of Abeloth, an immensely formidable entity known as the Bringer of Chaos. Abeloth occupies a unique position in both the canon and Legends, having once served as a loyal follower of the Mortis Gods. Gradually evolving into the Mother, she played a crucial role in preserving equilibrium between the light and dark forces embodied by the deities. However, driven by an insatiable desire for immortality, Abeloth's successful pursuit of eternal life ultimately led to a tragic and irreversible corruption.
In the Legends universe, the Mortis Gods trapped Abeloth in the Maw, a cluster of black holes near Kessel that is shown in Solo: A Star Wars Story. However, in the present canon, it is possible that Abeloth was banished to Peridea, a place from which she could not return. Even the purrgil, a species of large space-faring creatures, only go to Peridea to die. Similar to the Legends version, Abeloth may have been influenced by shifts in the balance of the Force, particularly the rise of the dark side during Palpatine's reign. If this is indeed the case, then she is becoming active once again, using her power to secure her freedom from her prison.
This potential storyline would be captivating for Star Wars because it would mean that Ahsoka is not just confronting another dark side group, but an incredibly powerful being that surpasses anything viewers have seen before. Abeloth would be an ideal adversary for Ahsoka Tano, who herself has connections to the Mortis gods. In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ahsoka was one of three Jedi who encountered these cosmic beings. She was killed by the Son, the embodiment of the dark side, but was later resurrected by the Daughter, the representative of the light side. If Abeloth is indeed involved, it is possible that Ahsoka has inherited the responsibility of the Mortis Gods in ensuring that she remains imprisoned. Although this is only a theory, it is an exhilarating one that demonstrates the potential for significant developments if Star Wars further explores Baylan's foreboding hints.
Ahsoka releases new episodes Tuesdays at 6 pm PT / 9 pm ET on Disney+.
