A fan has created artwork of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Fidough and Dachsbun in the art style of Paper Mario games.
The fan artwork showcases the transformation of Fidough into Dachsbun while featuring pastry-inspired designs. Created by the talented artist TimDrawsStuff, the animations were made using Adobe Animate. Additionally, TimDrawsStuff has also given a Paper Mario makeover to various other Pokemon characters.
In the art style of the Paper Mario games, a talented fan has reimagined Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Fidough and Dachsbun. Last year, Scarlet and Violet introduced new colorful Pokemon species to Nintendo’s popular monster-collecting franchise, including the Fairy-type Fidough, which resembles a mix between a puppy and a Spanish dessert pastry named Ensaimada. This combination fits well with the European influence of Scarlet and Violet’s Paldea region.
Fidough is part of an evolutionary lineage, with Dachsbun being the next form when Fidough reaches level 26. Dachsbun combines the appearance of a Dachshund with various types of bread rolls, loaves, and pretzels. Even before the launch of Scarlet and Violet on the Nintendo Switch last November, fans had created numerous imaginative fan art pieces featuring Fidough and Dachsbun. These artworks portray alternative "flavors" and Shiny variants of the pastry-themed pups while envisioning them in the art style of Paper Mario.
Reddit user TimDrawsStuff recently showcased their talent as a fan artist by sharing charming animations featuring Fidough and Dachsbun on the Pokémon subreddit. These animations, part of a larger art project TimDrawsStuff is working on, reimagine the characters as Paper Mario-style figures, complete with simplified designs and bold black line art. In the comments section, TimDrawsStuff explained the process of using Abode Animate to create the sprites by linking multiple image files together. The designs have garnered praise from other users, some even expressing a desire for the earlier 2D Pokémon entries to adopt this type of animation.
Despite Pokémon and Paper Mario being seemingly different, both Nintendo franchises share several similarities, notably their depiction of turn-based battles in the style of classic RPGs. One aspect that sets the Paper Mario series apart from other Mario games is its unique art style, portraying iconic characters like Mario, Princess Peach, and Bowser as flat, paper-like cutouts capable of engaging in battles using simple, quick-time button and joystick prompts. Certain Paper Mario games can be played on the Nintendo Switch, and fans can look forward to an HD-enhanced port of the beloved Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door next year.
TimDrawsStuff has already envisioned a number of Pokemon from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in the visual style of the Paper Mario games as part of their ongoing Paper Paldea Project. This includes Gholdengo, Gimmighoul, and several Paradox Pokemon. While they previously showcased their interpretation of Fidoguh back in August, they have now unveiled their skillfully crafted version of Dachsbun, which seamlessly combines the adorable, Dachshund-like design of the original with the charm of the Paper Mario series. Fans of TimDrawsStuff’s work can expect to see more incredible designs like these for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in the near future.
You can now get Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet for the Nintendo Switch.
