Star Wars is ready to unveil the destiny of a crucial missing Jedi from The High Republic novels. The High Republic is a transmedia publishing initiative that depicts the lives of the Jedi during their prime, centuries prior to the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Phase I of The High Republic's storytelling concluded early in 2022, but that narrative will be continued in Phase III, set to launch later this year. This upcoming phase will delve into the aftermath of the cataclysmic destruction of the Starlight Beacon space station.
During the fall of Starlight Beacon, numerous Jedi made valiant efforts to rescue both the station and those trapped inside. While many lives were saved, the fate of one Jedi, Burryaga, remains uncertain. Just before the devastation, Burryaga, a Wookiee Jedi, went missing. Star Wars recently announced on Twitter that the mystery surrounding his destiny will soon be unveiled.
How Burryaga, The Jedi Wookiee, Went Missing
As one of the central figures in The High Republic's initial narrative arc, Burryaga's fate prior to Phase III's debut came as an eagerly awaited revelation from the Star Wars franchise. Despite the Wookiees' reputation for indomitable strength and unwavering resolve, even they are not immune to the menacing ferocity of the Nihil.
Starlight Beacon stood as a beacon of hope and progress for the Outer Rim territories and the Galactic Frontier, symbolizing the Republic's commitment to prosperity. As a vital hub offering assistance, supplies, and safety amidst the perils of the galaxy, it embodied everything that the Nihil despised. The Nihil, a formidable band of marauders hell-bent on plundering the galaxy and eradicating the Jedi and the Republic, executed their audacious scheme in the final stages of The High Republic Phase I, ultimately felling Starlight Beacon. Trapped on board during the Nihil's assault were the courageous Wookiee Jedi Burryaga and a group of their fellow Jedi.
In Claudia Gray's novel, The Fallen Star, the Nihil's attack resulted in Burryaga facing the challenge of battling two escaped Rathtars in the lower section of Starlight Beacon. These dangerous creatures, known for their large size, carnivorous nature, and numerous tentacles, were first introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens aboard Han Solo's freighter. Single-handedly fighting one Rathtar is already incredibly difficult, and taking on two is nearly impossible. Burryaga's attempt to confront the creatures ended with his disappearance, leading others to believe he had perished. However, his fellow Jedi Padawan, Bell Zettifar, refused to accept this fate and made a vow to find him, even after Starlight Beacon's remnants crashed onto the planet Eiram. The events of The High Republic Phase III may ultimately prove Bell's determination to be justified.
