Known for their thrilling questlines, Bethesda games deliver once again with The Forsworn Conspiracy. This quest arises as players enter the enchanting city of Markarth, nestled in the eastern Reach region of Skyrim. Carved into mountainous stone walls, the city's outward beauty conceals a dark underbelly of secrets. Characters warn the Dragonborn that Markarth's streets are tainted with blood and silver. Follow this guide to unravel the gripping conspiracy gripping the city.
Visit Markarth

Head east from Dragon Bridge and Karthwasten to reach Markarth. Along the way, players can anticipate battling a couple of dragons. Additionally, they may come across the Forsworn, a faction of locals who utilize primitive armor and weapons.
Upon setting foot inside Markarth's stone walls, players will be confronted with a gruesome sight in the marketplace. A man named Weylin, acting on behalf of the Forsworn, murders a woman named Margret while she is shopping for jewelry. The guards swiftly eliminate him and caution the Dragonborn to steer clear.
Players have the opportunity to save Margret from imminent death by acting quickly, and in return, she will reward the Dragonborn with a precious silver emerald necklace. While her rescue does not significantly alter the overall progress of the quest, it does prevent players from obtaining Margret's key from her lifeless body, which proves useful later on. Nevertheless, players can still interrogate her about the attack in the market and alternatively acquire the key through pickpocketing.
Speak to Eltrys
Regardless of Margret's fate, a man named Eltrys will approach the Dragonborn shortly after the attack. He discreetly slips a note into the player's inventory, urging them to read it. The contents of the note reveal that Eltrys suspects foul play in the recent Forsworn murders and requests the player's assistance in unraveling the mystery. Eltrys directs the player to meet him once again at the Shrine of Talos, located at the heart of the city. Before parting ways, Eltrys assigns a couple of key objectives for the player to pursue in their investigation.
Investigate Weylin
In the lower district of Markarth, known as the Warrens, resides Weylin, the individual who assaulted Margret. Locate Garvey near the entrance and engage in a speech check to seek his assistance. Either convince him or offer a bribe to obtain the key to Weylin's room. Should the speech checks prove unsuccessful and the Dragonborn lacks sufficient gold, alternative means are available by picking the lock on the door.
Weylin's room is situated at the far end of the hallway on the right side. Enter the room and search the chest to acquire a note revealing that someone referred to as "N" orchestrated the attack in the marketplace. This new information prompts the objective of uncovering the identity of "N."
Investigate Margret
After departing from the Warrens, a character by the name of Dryston, who works as a hired soldier, will challenge the Dragonborn to a confrontational physical encounter. Emerging victorious in this hand-to-hand combat will prompt Dryston to divulge that his services were procured by Nepos the Nose, thereby unveiling N's true identity. Conversely, should the players suffer defeat, they have the option to discreetly garner a note from Dryston's possession as he enters the Warrens to safeguard Weylin's chamber. Alternatively, they may opt to eliminate Dryston and seize the note. Upon pursuing the investigation of Nepos, the objective will be added to their quest log.
Margret had chosen to stay at the Silver-Blood Inn, conveniently located near the city's entrance. Those in possession of her key could easily proceed down the left hallway and unlock the door at its conclusion. Alternatively, players had the option of persuading either Kleppr or Hroki to hand over the key or to simply rent the room themselves.
Margret's diary is concealed within a chest within the room. Retrieve it to discover her clandestine role as an Imperial spy. In the event of her survival, she will be found seated near the fire, and through a persuasive dialogue, the player can coax her into confessing her espionage.
Upon departing from the inn, Markarth guards will intercept the players, issuing menacing warnings to deter the Dragonborn's ongoing investigation. Prior to proceeding with the subsequent stages of the quest, return to Eltrys to claim a gold reward as compensation.
Speak to Thonar Silver-Blood
Thonar, the owner of the silver mines in the area and a person of political influence in the Reach, resides in the Treasury House. To gain access to speak with Thonar, approach Riadha at the entrance and persuade her. Upon speaking to Thonar, the player will be given various dialogue options, all resulting in Thonar angrily dismissing the Dragonborn.
Upon leaving the building, an unfortunate event occurs as Thonar's wife Betrid is poisoned, followed by an attack from Nana and Donnel. Engage in combat and defeat them. Thonar then reveals his secret deal with the king of the Forsworn, which is now nullified due to their attack on his family.
An alternate method is pickpocketing Thonar's Journal and avoiding speaking to him. This will prevent his wife from dying, along with the surprise attack.
Confront Nepos
Proceed to Nepos' residence to engage in conversation with him. The Dragonborn's progress will be obstructed by Uaile, Nepos' maid, at the entrance. However, Nepos will intervene and instruct her to grant them passage. It will come to light that Nepos adheres to the directives of the Forsworn ruler, executing assaults on the inhabitants of Markarth. It is imperative to inquire about the intricacies from Nepos in order to acquire comprehensive knowledge about Madanach, The Forsworn King.
Once the conversation concludes, Nepos and the other Forsworn launch a fierce assault on the player. Possessing both formidable spellcasting abilities and deadly melee weapons, the Forsworn prove to be a formidable force. Once the battle is won, players will discover an array of precious loot within the house, including silver ingots and gold. Moreover, by pilfering Nepos' Journal from him, players can glean further insights into their ongoing quest. Conversely, players may opt to swiftly pickpocket Nepos' Journal and make a hasty exit from the house, effectively evading the impending confrontation.
Return to the Shrine
Upon reaching the final objective, the player will unfortunately discover Eltrys' lifeless body beneath the shrine. A Markarth guard will then inform the Dragonborn that they disregarded the warnings, resulting in all the deaths that have occurred in Markarth being attributed to them.
The guard will explain that the player will now be taken to Cidhna Mine. The Dragonborn can either comply peacefully or choose to resist, leading to multiple waves of Markarth guards appearing. This will subsequently result in a permanent bounty being placed on the Dragonborn in the Reach. The only possible resolution to remove this bounty is by surrendering to the guards and initiating the No One Escapes Cidhna Mine Quest.
