Lydia Takes on Infamous Side Quest in Skyrim

A Skyrim player assigns their loyal follower Lydia to tackle one of the game's notorious side quests, taking on the challenge of living a second life in the immersive world of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim

With a plethora of side quests available in Skyrim, it can be overwhelming for players to take them all on. One fan, however, decided to entrust Lydia of Whiterun with the responsibility of completing at least one of these missions. While The Elder Scrolls 5 is famous for its high-fantasy action, including dragon slaying, players can also choose to lead a more indulgent digital life and become a hedonistic Dragonborn. Nevertheless, this is not the main reason why most gamers play the 2011 RPG.

With countless activities available, players can spend hundreds of hours exploring the Tamriel province and stumbling upon small stories and missions by chance. While most of the content is enjoyable, it's no secret that Skyrim has its fair share of frustrating quests, such as the infamous "The Break of Dawn." In this side story, players who pick up a mysterious beacon are commanded by the booming voice of the Daedric Prince Meridia and cannot drop the artifact until the journey is complete.

Of all the followers and companions in Skyrim, Lydia is undoubtedly the most renowned. This is largely due to the fact that she is typically the first to join the player's employ. Her unwavering loyalty to the Dragonborn, or "Thane," has made her an integral part of many people's playthroughs over the years. In a humorous clip uploaded to Reddit by user FLYSWATTER_93, Lydia is tasked with completing the "Break of Dawn" quest after the player character picks up the beacon. The edited clip shows the player opening a chest and discovering the beacon before immediately turning to Lydia and instructing her to take all the items from the chest. After reaching the quest's destination, a muffled version of Meridia's voice can be heard saying, "A new hand touches the beacon." This suggests that Lydia is now burdened with obeying the Prince's wishes, but it's ultimately up to the Dragonborn to complete the quest.

Despite the anticipation for the release of The Elder Scrolls 6, there is no concrete information about when it will actually be available to fans. As we wait for the next installment in the beloved Bethesda series, Skyrim continues to be a popular source of entertainment for many players. It remains to be seen whether the next game will surpass the popularity of Skyrim, but for now, the game is available in its Anniversary Edition for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
