A player in Skyrim recently received a significant inheritance from an NPC friend who passed away. The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has been a popular game for over a decade and has a dedicated community of fans and modders who continue to discover new things in the game's world. In Skyrim, players can form friendships with NPCs who may leave behind gold and even their home to be inherited by the Dragonborn upon their death. A courier will deliver a letter of inheritance to the player, announcing the NPC's passing and the amount of gold that will be received, minus the Jarl's tax of 10%.

An image shared on the Skyrim subreddit by Reddit user Altruistic_Tax_9918 shows an inheritance letter they received. The letter reveals the passing of their friend, an Ascendant Necromancer, and discloses an astonishing 2,052,972,800 gold pieces left to the player's name. According to the letter, the Jarl's court is entitled to a 10% cut, which amounts to 205,291,280 gold, leaving the player with approximately 1.8 billion gold pieces. However, some members of the Skyrim community have raised concerns about the authenticity of the inheritance and the exorbitant amount of gold mentioned in the letter. As a result, the post has since been removed from the subreddit.

The player's inheritance of an exorbitant amount of gold pieces is raising eyebrows, as it far exceeds the typical range of 100-500 gold left behind by friends of the Dragonborn. It remains unclear whether the player is using mods that alter the inheritance system or if this is a bug in the base game. Skyrim has had its fair share of smaller bugs tied to inheritance mechanics, including NPC names appearing as "Bandit" and inheritance letters with almost no content. Some players have even reported receiving an inheritance from NPCs who are still alive. While Bethesda's RPGs are known for being charmingly buggy, a bug of this magnitude being discovered 12 years after the game's initial launch is unusual. However, with nearly two billion gold pieces at their disposal, the lucky Dragonborn is certainly well-equipped for their adventures in Skyrim, assuming the inheritance is legitimate.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
