The legendary Majora's Mask makes a comeback in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, providing players with a powerful advantage to aid them in their quest. However, obtaining this highly coveted item won't be easy as it is concealed behind one of the game's most challenging battles.
Majora's Mask can be found at a specific location in Tears of the Kingdom, which is not easily accessible.
One of the coveted helmets in the game, Majora's Mask, poses a unique challenge for players who must navigate through the Depths and overcome the trials of a coliseum. This elusive mask can be found at the Floating Coliseum, which is situated at coordinates -1551, -1263, -0499, to the northeast of the Mu-ustust Lightroot.
If players have not yet explored the Mu-ustust Lightroot, they can opt to enter The Depths through the Great Plateau North Chasm, located on the northeastern edge of the Great Plateau.
.
Players can start their journey towards the Floating Coliseum by landing near the Nogukoyk Lightroot and heading west-northwest. The Coliseum is located in a lake between the Mu-ustust and Nogukoyk Lightroots. To reach the lake from Mu-ustust, players need to climb the hill to their east. On the other hand, from Nogukoyk, players should climb the ridge to their north and then proceed west to the lake. Regardless of the direction, players will come across a Zonai Device workstation on their way, which they can use to create a vehicle.
Players are presented with multiple options for approaching the Floating Coliseum. They can choose to either walk around the perimeter of the lake to reach the entrance on the north side, sail across the lake and scale the wall, or take a flying machine to drop in from above. These varying approaches add an element of strategy to the game and allow players to tailor their gameplay experience to their personal preferences.
.
Within the coliseum lies a chest locked by Gloom, situated in the middle of the floor. As players approach the chest, the Coliseum will lock, and the challenge will commence. However, players should not underestimate this battle and should enter only when fully prepared. Link will have to defeat five Lynels, each progressively stronger, to earn Majora's Mask.
To instantly defeat each Lynel, players can fuse Ancient Blades to their arrows. These blades are rare to come across in chests across Hyrule, and enemies defeated in this manner will not drop any materials. Alternatively, players may receive Ancient Blades as a possible drop for scanning the Link (Archer) amiibo or from an NPC in exchange for 50 Zoanite in the Spirit Temple.
Each Lynel is capable of inflicting significant Gloom Damage and are immune to standard stun mechanics such as freezing, shocking, and disorienting. The only solace for players is that they will fight each Lynel one at a time. To limit the Lynels' visibility, players could use Puffshrooms to create a puff of smoke and gain an advantage. As this is a long and strenuous fight, players should remain patient and keep a steady pace.
Round 1: Red-Maned Lynel.
The Red-Maned Lynel is a formidable enemy that carries a sword and shield. It's quick and agile, making it difficult to defeat. This battle will challenge players to be well-prepared for the challenges ahead. However, it's worth noting that this is the easiest Lynel to defeat compared to its counterparts.
Moving on to the second round, we have the Blue-Maned Lynel.
This Lynel is more powerful than the Red-Maned Lynel and has a greater range of attacks. Players will need to utilize all of their combat skills and equipment to defeat this formidable foe.
The White-Maned Lynel enters the competition, adding to the challenge. Armed with a halberd, it has the ability to jump and slam the ground in front of it.
.
The Silver Lynel is a formidable opponent that Link will face in the fourth round. It wields a sword and shield and will try to close in on Link to attack with its sword. This Lynel is similar to the standard Lynel in its fighting style, but its increased strength and durability make it a much tougher challenge.
After defeating all other challengers, the ultimate Lynel enters the arena. This powerful Silver Lynel comes out wearing thick stone armor and carrying a massive stone mace made from a claymore and stone spike-ball fused together.
To inflict damage on this Lynel, players must either destroy its armor using explosives or use a crusher weapon like a hammer or two-handed weapon to chip it away. During the battle, the Lynel will unleash a series of overhead strikes or perform a sweeping spin attack, similar to the Blue-Maned Lynel.
When facing off against Lynels in TotK, it's important to know that each one operates in a similar manner. They will charge at Link while swinging their weapon with precision. Depending on the type of weapon, Lynels may also have a few additional attacks at their disposal. In addition, they have bows and will use them if Link stays too far away. If the player gets too distant or the Lynel cannot reach them, it will switch to using its triple-shot bow, raining arrows down on Link. Once all Lynels are defeated, players can claim the coveted Majora's Mask from the chest in the middle of the coliseum.
While facing a Lynel in combat, players must be aware that the arrows shot by the Lynels will track their position for a while after being released. Therefore, standing still is not advised until the player gets a good sense of the timing. Moreover, the arrows can penetrate the ceiling of the rooms in the coliseum, leaving the player with no cover. However, standing underneath the Zonai Devices can provide an indefinite shield against the arrows.
When a Lynel stops moving, players should be alert and ready for it to release a series of large fireballs towards Link. Additionally, it might also pivot quickly and charge towards Link on its hands and feet, attempting to slam him to the ground.
During battles with Lynels, players can utilize Zonai Devices for both offensive and defensive purposes. However, caution must be exercised as Lynels possess a powerful roar that can obliterate any Zonai Device within its range. Additionally, after the roar, Lynels will pound the ground and unleash a fiery blast upon the same area.
The Majora's Mask is a potent and titular helmet from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask that provides no additional bonuses or significant defense. Nevertheless, it boasts an intriguing and practical ability.
While wearing Majora's Mask, Link is able to bypass most standard enemies in the world as they approach him with curiosity instead of attacking him. This includes Bokoblins, Lizalfos, Moblins, and even Lynels, although the latter will eventually recognize Link as an imposter. Additionally, in dark areas, the eyes of the Majora's Mask will illuminate, contributing to the eerie and mysterious aesthetic of the mask. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
