In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a player had a surprising encounter when a monster managed to hitch a ride on their self-built flying machine. Nintendo placed great emphasis on player creativity in this game, allowing them to tackle challenges in any way they can imagine, as long as they possess the necessary tools and abilities.
One notable innovation in Tears of the Kingdom is the introduction of Zonai devices. These devices were left behind by the Zonai, an ancient and enigmatic civilization of sentient machines. By harnessing the power of Ultrahand and Autobuild, players can combine these tools in countless ways. This enables them to create an array of contraptions, ranging from powerful mechs to simple yet efficient flying machines that Link can use to traverse the vast landscape of Hyrule.
Posted in the Tears of the Kingdom subreddit, a player known as Minariyoui shared a 32-second video clip that initially appeared to feature a creative flying machine. Resembling a classic rubber band-propelled model plane, Minariyoui's aircraft consisted of wings, a tail, and a solid main cabin. However, complications arose when Minariyoui flew too close to the ground while attempting to fire the Zonai canons mounted beneath the plane at a group of unsuspecting monsters.
Unfortunately, Minariyoui's plane collided with a pole in a nearby monster encampment. Rather than engaging in a ground altercation, the player swiftly adapted the plane for optimal takeoff conditions and launched back into the air. At this point, an interesting aspect introduced by the developers of Tears of the Kingdom came into play. During battles, the larger and more formidable monsters known as moblins occasionally pick up and hurl the smaller bokoblins at the character named Link. In Minariyoui's case, one such thrown bokoblin missed Link but instead landed on their plane just moments after it had taken off.
The bokoblin, despite its best efforts, struggled to take control of the plane. Its AI appeared a bit bewildered on how to proceed. Instead of engaging in close combat with Link, it attempted to shoot a few arrows that completely missed their target. It was quite comical, considering the fact that it was merely a few feet away on the same aircraft. This serves as a testament to why Tears of the Kingdom has captivated the imagination of so many people. The unexpected ways its systems and mechanics come together generate moments that no game designer could have planned. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is currently available on the Switch.
