The preliminary patch notes for the upcoming Final Fantasy 14 update, Growing Light, have been released by Square Enix, giving players a preview of what to expect. Prior to the update, the game will undergo a 24-hour maintenance, temporarily making it unavailable.

During events like FanFest and the Tokyo Game Show, Naoki Yoshida, the game director and producer, provided players with glimpses of the content that will be available in Patch 6.5, starting on Tuesday, October 3. However, not all the content revealed by Yoshida will be immediately accessible. The main story for Growing Light will be divided into two parts, with the first part arriving in Patch 6.5. Players will have to wait for approximately three more months for the second half, as Patch 6.55 is scheduled for release in mid-January 2024. Despite this, there will be numerous activities for Final Fantasy 14 players to engage in during the beginning of October.

Just days before the release of the Growing Light update, Square Enix unveiled the preliminary patch notes for Final Fantasy 14 Patch 6.5. While Job adjustments will be revealed at a later date, the patch notes provide essential information for FF14 players to kickstart the first half of the main story update. Embarking from Radz-at-Han, players will commence a seven-quest chain that culminates in an epic showdown with Zeromus, a beloved antagonist from the Final Fantasy series, in the thrilling Abyssal Fracture trial. Starting from Patch 6.5, players of Final Fantasy 14 who are on the free trial or have the Starter Edition will now have access to content from the Stormblood expansion. This includes the entirety of the main story up until Patch 4.55. However, free trial players will still have restrictions and won't be able to participate in Ultimate raids. Nevertheless, with two expansions' worth of content now available, the updated free trial of Final Fantasy 14 is expected to attract a significant increase in player numbers. To address potential congestion issues, Square Enix will be implementing new measures in Patch 6.5 and future updates.

With the addition of new content, players in FF14 will also have numerous opportunities to earn significant amounts of in-game currency, called gil. Overall, Final Fantasy 14 Patch 6.5 will offer something enjoyable for almost every player.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S version launching in Spring 2024.
