This summer, Final Fantasy 14 fans are eagerly anticipating the Las Vegas FanFest, where they will get the first taste of the upcoming 7.0 expansion. Tickets sold out within minutes, a testament to the excitement and anticipation surrounding the successful MMO's future. Fans are buzzing with speculation about what the expansion will bring, including its title, new locations, and potential new jobs. For some, like the performing arts community within the game, there are specific hopes for improvements to the housing system. Theatrical company Curtain Call, known for their elaborate performances on the Maduin server, is particularly interested in addressing the limitations of the existing housing system. As member Tromad (or Tro) explained,
"I hope for the option to customize interior layouts to add more variety. The current design has a staircase that goes up and down, with a large opening where it meets the balcony that wraps around the inside. It would be great if we could choose from different internal designs, allowing us to place the staircase elsewhere and not in the middle where I want to put my stage!"
Despite the limitations, Curtain Call and its sister project, Esprit, have been able to work around them. However, this requires a significant number of items that count towards the system's cap on furnishing slots. It is rumored that this cap will be raised in the upcoming expansion. In addition, the housing feature that allows for previewing furniture before purchase is also limited to only one item at a time. Chili added,
The community has expressed a desire for a more robust preview system, particularly for those who wish to experiment with combining different items to create unique looks. While a full preview system would be ideal, many players simply wish to be able to see how a few items work together before making a purchase. This is especially important for those who enjoy creating scenic designs and artistic elements, as it allows them to see how different colors and items complement each other. Additionally, players have requested indoor striking dummies to be used as special effects for productions, as well as continued development towards adding instanced housing to the game to address the longstanding housing crisis. Finally, players are eager to see more development for limited jobs like Blue Mage, as well as the potential addition of new jobs like Beastmaster.
Apart from the current jobs available in Final Fantasy 14, Curtain Call’s leaders have expressed their desire for a whip-wielding class. Additionally, they are curious about the expansion's location. Ahro is intrigued to learn more about the lore surrounding the region of Bozja, while Tro hopes to see more of the technology in Final Fantasy 14, particularly in places like Garlemald and Sharlayan. Chili is eager to explore the planet's southern region.
Meracydia has been frequently mentioned lately, and Chili hopes that it will be the next location to visit. With the gaps left by previous storylines, exploring Meracydia would be fascinating. Furthermore, players would love to see Blitzball, Final Fantasy 10's beloved aquatic rugby sport, make its appearance. Final Fantasy 14 frequently connects its world to real-life places, which is something that players appreciate.
“You know what would be really cool? If we could play Blitzball and win prizes at the Gold Saucer,” suggested Ahro. “Imagine being able to purchase uniforms from different Blitzball teams. That would be amazing!”
Final Fantasy 14 players can look forward to finding out which items from Curtain Call’s wishlist will be coming to the game. This will be revealed across three FanFests, with the first taking place in Las Vegas on July 28th and 29th.
Final Fantasy 14 is available to play on PC, PS4, and PS5.
