Destiny 2 players can look forward to receiving a unique emblem from Bungie as a tribute to the recent weapon crafting exploit. This gesture not only acknowledges the ingenuity of players, but also teases the possibility of exciting future escapades to come.
The exploit enabled players to add unique perks to legendary weapons, producing formidable creations that wreaked havoc in Trials of Osiris.
Bungie had previously acknowledged players who capitalized on unintended glitches by creating exclusive triumphs and emblems, and the recent exploit led to a substantial surge in player population.
Bungie plans to acknowledge the recent weapon crafting glitch in Destiny 2 by giving players a special emblem if they log in during that specific weekend. As a continually updated game, Destiny 2 keeps things fresh for its players through regular patches and updates. However, these changes can sometimes introduce unexpected bugs and exploits, and Destiny 2 has had its fair share of notorious glitches and issues, particularly when using the exotic fusion rifle, Telesto.
One of the more prominent exploits occurred a few weeks ago in September. Players discovered that they could use the weapon crafting feature in Destiny 2 to apply exotic perks to legendary weapons. Although the selection of available exotics is somewhat limited, players found a way to transfer perks like Screaming Swarm from Osteo Striga to numerous legendary weapons, resulting in extremely powerful combinations. Fixing the bug proved to be complex, delaying the solution beyond the weekend, which allowed players to continue using their uniquely powerful weapons in Trials of Osiris and causing some chaos in the game.
Although the bug has been resolved, Bungie wants to commemorate the weapon crafting chaos by giving players a distinct emblem inspired by The Relic's visual design on Mars. It's important to note that Destiny 2 players who logged in between September 15 at 9AM PDT and September 21 at 10AM PDT will automatically receive the emblem once the studio releases it during Season 23.
The "Funny Gun Weekend" unexpectedly resulted in a significant surge of approximately 20,000 players on PC alone for Destiny 2. Bungie clearly acknowledged this increase and expressed admiration for the players' ingenuity in creating unique weapons. They also hinted at the possibility of incorporating more "fun shenanigans" in future events.
Bungie has previously acknowledged players who persevered through challenging or glitch-ridden weekend events. Specifically, the Lord of Wolves shotgun and Prometheus Lens trace rifle had associated bugs that made them more powerful than intended. While Bungie worked on resolving these issues, Destiny 2 players were able to exploit the bugged weapons during the Crucible and Iron Banner activities. Eventually, Bungie rewarded participants with special triumphs and emblems, a practice similar to their current approach.
Destiny 2 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
