Britney Spears is set to unveil a long-held secret from her past in her forthcoming memoir. In the book, Spears shares that she underwent an abortion while involved in a romantic relationship with Justin Timberlake, as detailed in a recently released excerpt published by People magazine.
"It came as a surprise, though not a tragic one for me. My love for Justin was immense, and I had always envisioned us starting a family together in the future. However, this turn of events happened sooner than I had anticipated," expresses Spears in her book, "The Woman in Me."
Nevertheless, she reveals, "Justin, on the other hand, was clearly unhappy about the pregnancy. He believed we were ill-prepared to embrace the responsibilities of parenthood at such a young age."
CNN has not yet been able to independently review "The Woman in Me."
A representative for Timberlake did not respond to CNNs request for comment.
Spears expresses her internal conflict during that time, stating that if the decision solely depended on her, she would never have chosen to do it. However, Justin's strong stance on not wanting to become a father added to her dilemma.
"To this day, its one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life," she adds.
Timberlake and Spears dated from 1999 until 2002.
Spears went on to tie the knot with dancer Kevin Federline, with whom she had two sons, namely Sean Preston (18) and Jayden James (17). However, the couple divorced in 2007.
As for Timberlake, he found love in actress Jessica Biel, and the couple got married in 2012. They now have two adorable sons named Silas and Phineas.
"The Woman in Me" publishes on Oct. 24.
