Annet Artani, the cowriter of Britney Spears' "Everytime," has debunked fans' speculation that the song was written about Spears' terminated pregnancy in the early 2000s. Artani, 47, stated that the song was actually inspired by her own breakup, not the split between Spears and Timberlake. She revealed that she had recently ended her relationship with Dan Kenney, who was Spears' musical director at the time, and used that emotional pain to create the song.

Spears, aged 41, teamed up on the song shortly after her separation from Timberlake, aged 42. Artani confirmed that during the musical session, Spears did not bring up the topic of a potential pregnancy or having an abortion. The release of "Everytime" in 2003 has fueled persistent speculation that it alludes to Spears and Timberlake's breakup.

"Notice me, take my hand, why are we estranged when our love is resilient? Why should we continue without each other?" she melodically sings. "Every attempt to soar feels futile, without my wings, I am overwhelmed by insignificance. I suppose I yearn for your presence, darling. And every time I close my eyes, I am tormented by your haunting visage. I confess, I crave your companionship, baby."

Recently, Spears divulged in her memoir, The Woman in Me, that during her courtship with Timberlake, she discovered she was expecting a child.

In her debut book, Spears revealed that Justin was unhappy about the pregnancy and believed they weren't ready to have a baby due to their young age. Despite some potential backlash, Spears agreed to not go through with the pregnancy, although she questioned whether it was the right decision. She admitted that if the choice had been hers alone, she would have chosen differently, but Justin was firm in his desire to not become a father. This revelation sparked fans to reexamine the lyrics and imagery of Spears' song "Everytime," particularly the scenes of her walking through a hospital with a woman who had just given birth and another who had passed away.

Neither Spears nor Timberlake have not publicly commented on the inspiration for “Everytime.”

The two Grammy winners, who first crossed paths on the set of The All New Mickey Mouse Club, publicly revealed their relationship in 1999. However, they called it quits three years later in 2002 amidst allegations of infidelity from both parties. (Spears later claimed in The Woman in Me that they were both unfaithful.)

Timberlake has refrained from making any public statements in response to Spears' revelations, as a source informed us that he is actively trying to detach himself from the exposé.

"He's not giving too much attention to anything she might bring up regarding their previous relationship," a source told Us earlier this month. "Justin and Britney dated a long time ago, and he has completely moved on. He's focused on his family, career, and moving forward, and he wants to put anything from the past behind him."

The former member of 'NSync tied the knot with actress Jessica Biel in 2012 and they have two sons, Silas (8) and Phineas (2). As for Spears, she has two sons, Sean Preston (18) and Jayden James (17), from her previous marriage to Kevin Federline. She later entered into a relationship with Sam Asghari and they got married in 2022 but separated earlier this year.
