Disney Lorcana offers six different types of Ink, each representing a unique character. The Amber Ink, in particular, consists of cards that fulfill supportive roles. This category includes singers, bodyguards, sidekicks, and any other loyal and steadfast characters. Currently, there are 34 distinct Amber Ink cards available. However, identifying the best Amber Ink cards can be challenging, as the term "best" does not solely refer to strength. In Lorcana, creating a powerful deck requires a combination of expensive, strong cards and cheaper, weaker ones. To help players in their selection, below are some notable Amber cards that excel in both categories.
Below, players will find each Disney Lorcana card's name, Ink cost, Rarity (how common it is to find in booster packs), Strength (damage dealt when challenging), Willpower (damage sustained before being banished), Lore value (amount of Lore gained from Questing), and any special abilities it possesses.
Lorcana Amber Cards - Moana, Of Motunui
Name: Moana, Of Motunui
Rarity: Legendary
Cost: 5 Ink
Strength: 1
Willpower: 6
Lore: 3
Abilities: We Can Fix It - When Moana from Motunui completes a quest, all other Princess characters are Readied (but cannot complete quests for the rest of the turn).
This information should not come as a surprise to those who are familiar with Amber Ink cards in Lorcana. Moana from Motunui is an extremely powerful card that only costs five Ink to play. Although her Strength is not exceptional, she has six Willpower, making her highly resilient, and earns three Lore points each time she completes a quest. Moreover, her ability, We Can Fix It, allows all other Princess characters to be Readied whenever Moana from Motunui completes a quest.
This means players can safely utilize their Princess characters to embark on quests before preparing them again with Moana, Of Motunui. Since players can only challenge cards that are Exerted, this strategy ensures their safety turn after turn, allowing players to quickly accumulate a significant amount of Lore. Alternatively, players have the option to either use an action of a Princess card twice in one turn or embark on a quest and use an action. For decks centered around Princess cards, Moana, Of Motunui is an essential addition. Fortunately, she is already included in the Amber and Amethyst Lorcana starter deck.
Lorcana Amber Cards - Ariel, Spectacular Singer
Name: Ariel, Spectacular Singer
Rarity: Super Rare
Cost: 3 Ink
Strength: 2
Willpower: 3
Lore: 1
Abilities: Singer 5 - Counts as cost 5 when singing songs
Musical Debut - Examine the top four cards of the deck and select a song card. Return the remaining cards to the bottom of the deck.
True to her name, Ariel, the Spectacular Singer, possesses an extraordinary talent for performing songs. Despite only requiring three Ink to play, she possesses the ability to sing songs as if she were valued at five Ink instead. It is important to note that this includes all songs in Disney Lorcana's First Chapter across all Ink Types, with the exception of "Be Prepared." This grants Ariel unprecedented versatility, allowing her to unveil potent songs much earlier than they would typically appear in a game.
Players shouldn't expect Ariel to make significant contributions in terms of Strength, Willpower, or Lore. However, her ability to effortlessly draw a song card and play it for free by Exerting is undeniably impressive. It is worth noting that, being a Princess character, Ariel can be Exerted to sing a song for free. Afterward, she can be Readied again when Moana, Of Motunui Quests. This means that she could potentially sing a second song for free. Depending on the songs the player has in their deck, this card can be utilized in numerous intriguing ways.
Lorcana Amber Cards - Hakuna Matata
Name: Hakuna Matata
Rarity: Common
Cost: 4 Ink (Or Exert a Character of Cost 4 or Less)
Effect: Heal all friendly characters by removing 3 damage.
When it comes to songs, Hakuna Matata stands out as one of the top tracks in the Amber card set. Players have the option to spend four Ink to play this card in the usual manner or exert any character with a cost of four or higher to perform it at no cost. The impact of this card is significant, as it provides a substantial group heal by removing up to three damage from every Character card currently on the player's side of the field. This becomes particularly advantageous if the opponent has dispersed damage across multiple cards.
Lorcana Amber Cards - Hades, Lord Of The Underworld
Certainly, numerous Amber Cards, such as Ariel, an exceptionally talented singer, possess the Singer ability, making the task of bringing this song into play even more effortless. While there exist alternative effects that have curative properties, such as Healing Glow or the Dinglehopper Item, none can quite match the proficiency of the Hakuna Matata song.
Name: Hades, Lord Of The Underworld
Rarity: Rare
Cost: 4 Ink
Strength: 3
Willpower: 2
Lore: 1
Abilities: Well Of Souls - When this card is played, take a character from the Discard Pile and add it to the Player's hand.
Hades, the Lord of the Underworld, may initially seem out of place as an Amber card, but once players grasp his ability, it becomes clearer. Well Of Souls empowers Hades to retrieve a card from the player's Discard Pile and incorporate it into their hand, effectively resuscitating a card. In the realm of Lorcana, the ability to retrieve cards from the Discard Pile holds immense significance for two primary reasons.
Firstly, suppose players have constructed their deck strategy around a card like Moana of Motunui; the loss of this card could prove devastating. However, Hades, the Lord of the Underworld, possesses the capability to restore it and maintain the deck's momentum. Furthermore, apart from winning upon accumulating 20 Lore, players in Lorcana risk losing the game if they deplete their deck of cards. In such scenarios, Hades, the Lord of the Underworld, effectively grants the player an extra turn, serving as a safeguard against attrition-driven battles.
Lorcana Amber Cards - Honorable Mentions
These are excellent examples of Amber cards, and there are a few others that deserve mentioning too. Heihei, Boat Snack stands out as an exceptional cost 1 card in the Amber set. He is easy to play, can be included in Lorcana's Inkwell, possesses decent survivability for a cost 1 card, and remains valuable even after other cards are played due to his Support ability.
Mickey Mouse, True Friend is arguably the most well-balanced card in the entire game. It has an Ink cost of three and offers players a reliable all-rounder with three Strength, three Willpower, and two Lore. If necessary, Mickey Mouse can also be added to the Inkwell.
Finally, Maximus, Palace Horse stands out as the top bruiser in the Amber card set. Despite its higher cost of five Ink, this card offers a remarkable four Strength and five Willpower, along with impressive abilities. With the Bodyguard ability, Maximus, Palace Horse becomes a reliable defender for other vulnerable cards. Additionally, the Support ability allows Maximus to boost the Strength of another card by a staggering four when he embarks on a Quest. As a result, even a seemingly weaker card like Heihei, Boat Snack becomes a formidable force to be reckoned with.
