Disney Lorcana has unveiled its latest card, showcasing Rapunzel from the beloved animated film Tangled. This highly anticipated trading card game allows players to take on the role of Illumineer, a formidable sorcerer assigned with the task of recruiting Disney characters from "The Great Illuminary."
Mark your calendars for August 18, as Disney Lorcana will be launching its inaugural series, aptly named The First Chapter. This exciting collection will showcase beloved Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Frozen's lovable snowman, Olaf. The release will offer various options to enhance your gameplay experience, including starter packs, booster packs, a special Illumineer's Trove, and an exclusive gift pack featuring rare cards of Mulan and Hades.
The First Chapter is set to release in just under two months, and Disney Lorcana has given fans a sneak peek at one of the cards included in the set. The card, titled "Rapunzel, Letting Down Her Hair," was unveiled by brand manager and co-designer Ryan Miller in a video on The Gamer. The artwork showcases Rapunzel utilizing her long hair as a lasso. This card will be a six-cost Ruby ink card with a Strength of 5 and a Willpower of 4. Its special ability allows players to remove one Lore from each player in the game.
The announcement of the Rapunzel card generated a buzz on Twitter among TCG enthusiasts who praised the artwork. Some fans also noted that the card would complement the previously-revealed "Aladdin, Heroic Outlaw" card from Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter, as both cards possess the ability to strip opponents of their Lore. Anticipating players of Disney Lorcana, these cards are seen as valuable tools for the mid to late game, effectively hindering opponents from accumulating the necessary 20 Lore to win.
Many TCG players have already begun studying the mechanics of Disney Lorcana and are actively building and sharing practice decks on YouTube. This level of dedication suggests that Disney Lorcana has the potential to become a successful competitive card game in the future. Additionally, with the release of Disney Lorcana Set 2 in November, players will have the opportunity to further enhance their decks.
However, Disney Lorcana has also faced challenges amidst the excitement. Ravensburger, the publisher of Disney Lorcana, has been accused of copying another TCG's design and mechanics. Upper Deck, the company filing the lawsuit, alleges that an ex-employee of Ravensburger stole the design for Rush of Ikorr to create Disney Lorcana. Upper Deck has sought an injunction to delay the release of Disney Lorcana and has filed a lawsuit against Ravensburger. Despite these accusations, Ravensburger remains determined to release The First Chapter in August and strongly defends the originality of their design team, dismissing Upper Deck's claims as unfounded. As of now, no updates have been provided regarding the lawsuit.
