Disney Lorcana is a trading card game, requiring players to be knowledgeable in constructing their own decks. While the Lorcana Starter Decks serve as a starting point, players will eventually need to create new decks to explore different strategies and combinations. Although the rules for deck-building are simple, players should bear in mind a few tips to build effective decks. Not all legal decks are guaranteed to be successful.
Whether players are assembling a deck using Booster Pack cards, mixing Starter Decks for unique combinations, or using the Disney Lorcana Companion app for theorycrafting, understanding the game's deck-building rules is crucial. Once mastered, players can experiment with countless combinations.
Disney Lorcana – Deck Building Rules
There are only three rules players have to follow when building a deck in Disney Lorcana:
The deck must contain at least 60 cards
The deck may only contain cards from one or two Ink types
The deck can only have up to four copies of a single card.
The standard Lorcana deck size is 60 cards, with no upper limit. Players are allowed to build decks with 120 or more cards if they choose. Understanding the different types of Ink in Disney Lorcana is required, as players are restricted to having only two different colors of cards in their decks. Lastly, the final rule states that a deck cannot contain more than four copies of a single card, except when multiple versions of a character are involved. For example, a player could include four copies of both the "Rapunzel, Letting Down Her Hair" and "Rapunzel, Gifted With Healing" cards.
Disney Lorcana – Building a Good Deck
Players who adhere to the aforementioned rules may still end up with a lackluster deck. To mitigate this, it is advisable to follow some general guidelines. Firstly, it is recommended to limit the deck to 60 cards. While it is feasible to construct a deck with a larger number of cards, doing so would only make it more difficult to locate specific cards required by the player.
Additionally, it is important to monitor the Ink cost of cards included in the deck. Generally, there should be a greater number of cost 1 cards than cost 2 cards, a greater number of cost 2 cards than cost 3 cards, and so forth. Furthermore, it is advantageous to include a significant portion (at least 45 out of 60) of cards that can be added to the Inkwell – easily identified by the golden circle surrounding their cost.
Beyond that, the fun lies in exploring various card combinations in Disney Lorcana. Many of the cards in the game synergize effectively with each other, allowing players to create exciting combos. As long as players maintain a reasonable deck size, handle card costs wisely, and have a good number of cards to expand their options, their decks should be adequately balanced. Mark your calendars for the release of Disney Lorcana on August 18th.
