The Alien DLC Chapter in Dead by Daylight introduces a thrilling addition to the game, the Nostromo ship, along with the iconic characters Ellen Ripley and the Xenomorph killer from the Alien franchise films. This infamous movie setting is where fans were first introduced to the Facehugger and the terrifying Xenomorph creature, as well as Ripley, who is known as one of the most intelligent protagonists in the horror genre.
In a recent interview with Behaviour Interactive Creative Director Dave Richard and Game Designer Janick Neveu, Game Rant discussed the new Nostromo Wreckage map in the Alien Chapter, which is the 29th DLC for the horror game. Richard and Neveu provided insights into the unique features of the map, such as the environmental steam pipes, and hinted at possible Easter Eggs that players can discover.
Dead By Daylight Nostromo Map Features And Steam Pipes
The steam pipe system is an exceptional and distinctive aspect of Dead by Daylight's new Nostromo map. Neveu elaborated that it drew inspiration from the game's already existing pallet system, aiming to offer a function that both killers and survivors could utilize. The concept behind the steam pipe was to transform this idea into something unique, providing a trigger effect that survivors can strategically consider when deciding to pass through it. Additionally, the killer can leverage the steam pipe against survivors, rendering them unable to reach or pursue if they enter it.
Neveu mentioned that while explaining the functioning of the steam pipes, there is some mystery surrounding it initially. He expressed the hope that players would enjoy exploring and discovering how the steam pipe system works.
In the Nostromo map, players can access an interior Nostromo shipwreck and an exterior map area. Richard compared the interior of Nostromo to the previous maps in Dead by Daylight, describing it as quite sizable and intriguing to explore. Additionally, it presents a learning curve for both killers and survivors to navigate around. Neveu also emphasized how the map offers versatility and various possibilities for players.
Jonesy The Cat And Nostromo Map Easter Eggs In Dead By Daylight
The Nostromo-inspired interior map offers a unique atmosphere, blending tight corridors and creating a sense of immersion. This design choice enhances the survivor's ability to employ stealth tactics. On the other hand, the exterior map presents a different gameplay experience with its engaging loop structures, but also poses a higher risk of being spotted by the killer due to the limited number of obstacles.
Richard playfully described the Nostromo map as being "super rich" in references to the Alien franchise, along with "some surprises and hidden gems that players can discover." It's highly likely that devoted fans who have already explored the map have come across Jonesy the cat in the Nostromo, a beloved character from the movies and a popular speculation for a potential appearance in the gameplay. In addition to the anticipated cat cameo, there are numerous other Alien Easter eggs awaiting players, including the iconic Facehugger.
The inclusion of Alien Easter eggs and the overall Alien Chapter sets up an intriguing premise for potential future killers or characters in Dead by Daylight. Neveu and Richard did not disclose any upcoming plans, but it seems plausible that the notorious Predator could potentially join the game in the future. Only time will tell.
Dead by Daylight is currently accessible on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
