World of Warcraft players now have a better chance of obtaining the Headless Horseman's Mount in Patch 10.1.7.
The players will enjoy enhanced chances of acquiring the mount by securing the first kill on the Headless Horseman each day. Furthermore, obtaining the Horseman's "curses" prior to initiating the battle will further boost the odds.
In Patch 10.1.7, Fury Incarnate, Blizzard has increased the chances for World of Warcraft players to obtain the Headless Horseman's Mount. However, these increased odds only apply to the first kill of the Headless Horseman per day. To further enhance the odds, players can acquire the Horseman's "curses" before entering the battle.
The Headless Horseman, also known as Sir Thomas Thomson, is a renowned villain in the World of Warcraft. Once a Scarlet Crusader, Thomson's soul was cursed upon his death, transforming him into the Headless Horseman. He delusionally believes that he is the only one alive while everyone else is undead. Defeating the Headless Horseman awards players with special gear like rings, a sword, and the Horseman's helmet. However, the most sought-after item among players is The Horseman's Reins, which grants them the prestigious Headless Horseman's Mount - one of the most remarkable mounts available in the world of World of Warcraft.
World of Warcraft players brave enough to confront the Headless Horseman have discovered that the encounter has undergone significant changes compared to previous years. When Patch 10.1.7 became available on the public test realm (PTR) in July 2023, dataminers unearthed that the battle with the Headless Horseman was receiving a complete makeover, including a unique "hard mode" that could be unlocked by players. Currently, players can access this new challenge by interacting with any of the wickerman statues located to the left as they enter the Headless Horseman's battle instance. By engaging with the central wickerman, players can voluntarily accept the Horseman's curses, which will introduce additional area-of-effect (AoE) spells to avoid and more minions to vanquish during the fight.
To incentivize players to conquer these curses, Blizzard community manager Kaivax announced that those who successfully overcome them on their first daily victory will have an improved chance of obtaining the Headless Horseman's Mount through the Loot-Filled Pumpkin reward. The exact magnitude of this increased chance is unknown, but it follows a similar pattern seen with the X-45 Heartbreaker mount's buff during the yearly Love Is In The Air holiday.
Blizzard is gearing up for the release of the Guardians of the Dream content update on November 7, coinciding with the timely improvement to the Headless Horseman's Mount. While the drop rate for the Horseman's Reins remains relatively low, the anticipation builds as players wonder how many will finally obtain this elusive mount after a long and arduous search. World of Warcraft is currently accessible exclusively on PC.
