World of Warcraft is offering the Swift Shorestrider, an exclusive mount from the Trading Card Game (TCG), as a complimentary reward for Amazon subscribers via Prime Gaming. This mount is part of World of Warcraft's ongoing practice of distributing items from the discontinued Trading Card Game at no cost.
Recently, Prime Gaming partnered with Blizzard to provide monthly loot drops for various games, including World of Warcraft. These freebies often consist of cosmetic items, mounts, and minions that were previously exclusive to the now-defunct World of Warcraft Trading Card Game.
Now, World of Warcraft is continuing this trend for July. Until July 20, players with Amazon Prime subscriptions can acquire the Swift Shorestrider mount for free. To do so, players must connect their Twitch and Amazon accounts to their World of Warcraft account. Even players without subscriptions can claim Prime Gaming rewards, including this mount, as long as they haven't previously used their free trial.
Previously, the Swift Shorestrider could only be obtained through the World of Warcraft TCG. It could be redeemed using a code on the Wasteland Tallstrider card from the Throne of the Tides expansion in 2011. However, since it is no longer in circulation, it now sells for approximately $500. The mount itself is a blue variation of the Tallstriders, which are ostrich-like creatures native to Kalimdor. The model for these creatures received an updated design in the Battle for Azeroth expansion.
Most players eagerly anticipate the opportunity to obtain the coveted Swift Shorestrider mount. Since the discontinuation of the World of Warcraft TCG a decade ago, acquiring items from its codes has become prohibitively expensive. However, the recent introduction of items like the Feldrake, Big Battle Bear, and the Ethereal Portal hearthstone toy through Prime Gaming and Twitch drops has given players hope that more rare items will be distributed in the future.
Some players, however, hold a more subdued enthusiasm towards these recent World of Warcraft campaigns. Those who had previously obtained these cards or spent significant amounts of money to acquire them feel slighted by the accessibility of these once exclusive collector's items. Unfortunately for these players, it appears that World of Warcraft has every intention of continuing this trend. While it is unlikely that extremely rare items like the Reins of the Spectral Tiger will be made available, players who value the prestige of owning such collectibles should anticipate their decreasing rarity in the near future.
World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
