A player has utilized their Tony Hawk-esque skills to tackle a shrine in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which boasts an array of grind rails to choose from. As one of the latest entries in the beloved Nintendo franchise, Tears of the Kingdom has quickly become a fan favorite, offering players a range of potential options for puzzle-solving within its shrines. With new mechanics like fusing and building, players can reap rewards such as the Light of Blessing, which can be converted into additional heart containers or stamina for the game's protagonist, Link. While it's not often that Tony Hawk skills come in handy in the world of Zelda, Tears of the Kingdom has managed to offer up a unique challenge that players with a knack for grinding and rail tricks can't help but appreciate.
In a recent Reddit post, a Legend of Zelda fan by the name of DursoBR shared an impressive clip that showcased their skills in combining Tears of the Kingdom and the Tony Hawk franchise. The video starts with DursoBR approaching one of the three tracks of guide rails in a shrine, where they use their shield as a makeshift skateboard. As they run out of speed, DursoBR hops off the shield to gain more momentum before returning to the grind. This process repeats several times as they try to reach the end of the Tears of the Kingdom shrine.
The video shows DursoBR expertly hopping from one guide rail to the next, getting off their shield six times to gain more speed. They reach the pinnacle of the middle rail and take a daring leap of faith to the rail below, grinding their shield all the way to the green altar that rewards them with a Light of Blessing. The fall to the lower rails is reminiscent of the Tony Hawk games as DursoBR expertly transfers the momentum to their shield, giving them the speed boost they need to finish the shrine.
Players of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are already familiar with the concept of shield surfing, which allows them to use their armor to glide through the terrain of Hyrule. In Tears of the Kingdom, Link may have had to move multiple objects near the rails in the shrine to progress, but DursoBR's shield allowed for a quicker and more efficient method to reach the end. The game is currently available on the Nintendo Switch platform.
