Soldier Boy would be an excellent selection as a Kameo Fighter, given his proficiency in utilizing a shield, gun, and energy burst, which seamlessly align with the game's exaggerated violence and darkly comical tone.
Mortal Kombat 1, the upcoming reboot of the series, is set to bring back many of the beloved elements from previous titles. One such tradition is the inclusion of guest characters, and this time around, Omni-Man and Homelander from The Boys have been confirmed. Additionally, Mortal Kombat 1 will introduce the Kameo Fighter system, allowing for a larger roster and the possibility of featuring another character from The Boys. This new addition is a significant departure from the previous game, Mortal Kombat 11, which had a more subdued direction similar to Street Fighter 5. In Mortal Kombat 1, players can expect more freedom with increased aerial options and the ability to summon assist characters known as Kameo Fighters. These fighters can be called upon to execute individual attacks and join in combos, similar to the style found in games like Marvel vs. Capcom. However, it's important to note that the Kameo Fighters cannot be fully tagged in and serve solely as assistance.
Soldier Boy Would Be A Great Kameo Fighter
Kameo Fighters each have a set of three moves at their disposal. The first move requires pressing the Kameo button, the second move involves pressing the same button along with a forward or back directional input (each offering a slight variation), and the third move is activated by pressing the button with a downward input. With the announcement of new Kameo Fighters and the confirmation of Homelander as a DLC character, it would be disappointing not to see an assist character from The Boys. Soldier Boy would be an excellent choice, as his skills and powers provide him with various utilities that can make him a versatile Kameo Fighter.
Soldier Boy's first ability could revolve around his shield. He would have the capability to block attacks on behalf of the primary character, leaving the opponent vulnerable to counterattacks. Additionally, if targeted by a projectile, Soldier Boy could potentially reflect it back at the opponent. Taking inspiration from Captain America, Soldier Boy is also a skilled marksman. His forward/back Kameo ability could involve using his gun, offering different variations such as firing straight or into the air. This would make him an effective companion for a base fighter who lacks ranged or anti-air options. Furthermore, this ability could serve as a combo finisher, dealing additional damage.
Characters From The Boys Make Sense For Mortal Kombat
Soldier Boy's final ability, the energy burst, serves multiple purposes. Primarily, it can be used to extend combos by launching the opponent into a juggle state. Additionally, with the potential for massive bursts, it could also function as a powerful combo ender. When combined with Soldier Boy's proficiency in using his gun and shield, this ability complements various play styles effectively. The combination of Soldier Boy's move set and the world portrayed in Eric Kripke's adaptation of The Boys align perfectly with the over-the-top, violent, and darkly humorous nature of Mortal Kombat.
The shared utilization of excessive violence between Mortal Kombat and The Boys makes the inclusion of Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1 an obvious choice. Unlike previous Mortal Kombat games featuring a sole guest character from a franchise, the introduction of Kameo Fighters might pave the way for more guests from both series. Given the similarity between Soldier Boy and the existing roster, he would be an ideal starting point. Although no guest Kameo Fighters have been officially announced for the game yet, considering the franchise's penchant for popular guest characters, it is only a matter of time before they join the Mortal Kombat 1 lineup.
Mortal Kombat 1 will release on September 19 for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
