Tracking Down the Four Dragons in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Upheaval may have caused chaos and destruction in Hyrule, but the Four Dragons seem to have remained unscathed. These powerful creatures offer valuable materials for players willing to seek them out and get close.

In Tears of the Kingdom, the Four Dragons are Dinraal, Farosh, Naydra, and the mysterious Light Dragon. Each dragon represents a different element, with fire, lightning, and ice attributed to Dinraal, Farosh, and Naydra, respectively. This guide will reveal their flight paths, how to approach them, and how to collect their precious materials.

How to Reach a Dragon and Get Materials from Them

Unleashing the Power of Zelda's Four Dragons: Find Farosh, Naydra, Dinraal & Light Dragon

To reach a Dragon in Breath of the Wild, players have a few options at their disposal. One way is to take off from a Skyview Tower or glide down from a Sky Island. Another option is to construct a flying machine to ascend towards the dragon. Alternatively, players can wait for Dinraal, Farosh or Naydra to enter or exit a chasm and then jump onto it.

However, the Light Dragon remains in the skies, making it difficult to reach. Once Link reaches the Dragon, he can collect valuable resources. Players should walk along the length of the dragon to collect shards from its spikes and then go to the Dragon's head. Here, using a weapon to hit the Horn will break a small piece off that can be harvested.

Shoot a Dragon in the mouth with an arrow to knock loose a piece of its fang. Collect it as it falls or after it hits the ground. Similarly, peg one of the Dragon's claws with an arrow on the way down after jumping off, and a piece of claw will shine and fall to the ground. Track it down to grab it or catch it in midair if possible. It's important to note that obtaining the Dragon Horn and Scale is subject to a cooldown of about 12 minutes and they share the same cooldown, so players may want to engage in other activities before attempting to obtain them again.

Dinraal, the Fire Dragon, glides majestically between the Eldin Mountains and Akkala Highlands, occasionally dipping into the chasm to the left of the Typhlo Ruins Skyview Tower before soaring back up and around Gorondia in the Depths. Its flight path continues through the Chasm north of Tarrey Town, completing the circuit. As a Fire Dragon, Dinraal emits intense heat, making it imperative for players to equip themselves with Flamebreaker armor before attempting to land on its back. Additionally, players should exercise caution when flying near the dragon or riding on it, as Dinraal is known to create fireballs that can cause significant damage.

Dinraal's Spike Fragments can be used to create hammers that harness the power of fire, while its Horn produces swords with exceptional attack strength and fire damage, making them ideal for weapon fusion. Additionally, they can be utilized to craft fire arrows that are explosively powerful, just like the Dragon's Scales.

Incorporating Dinraal's Scales into cooking recipes will increase the duration of any food buffs by two minutes. Meanwhile, Dinraal's Claw is a valuable elemental element that can enhance attack power, much like the Scale, and can sell for a decent amount of Rupees. As it is also required for a certain side quest, it is recommended to keep one on hand. All of Dinraal's Components can produce potent fire arrows that may pose a threat to Link at close range, but are incredibly effective against enemies.

Naydra, the majestic Ice Dragon, gracefully takes flight across the sky, journeying from Naydra Snowfield on the western slopes of Mount Lanayru to the tranquil shores of the Necluda Sea. This magnificent creature then continues its path towards the lush landscapes of Kakariko Village, painting a breathtaking scene in the skies above.

When Naydra reaches Kakariko Village, it dives into the chasm just north and travels back towards Naydra Snowfield. It emerges from the Chasm on the left of the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower and repeats its route. Its ground route can be seen on the map above.

To approach Naydra, Link needs cold-resistant armor or food that grants cold resistance since it is an Ice Dragon. Naydra also creates clouds of cold air that emerge from the area near its head and can freeze Link solid. Players should be careful when trying to ride or fly close to Naydra.

Naydra's Horns create swords that deal high damage and freeze enemies solid, while its Spike fragments create Hammers with the same properties. Its Scales offer the ice element and a damage boost, and they also increase food buff durations by two minutes when used in cooking.

Finally, Naydra's Claw is needed for a particular side quest and behaves similarly to the scale when used in fusion. Like Dinraal's Materials, Naydra's parts can create potent ice arrows with a wide AOE, which can be devastating against foes but are difficult to use at close range.

Farosh, the Lightning Dragon, is a majestic creature that can often be seen soaring over the Faron Grasslands, located to the right of the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower. Its flight path takes it southeast along the canyon before turning east towards Lake Hylia. Once it reaches the lake, Farosh plunges into the chasm to the left of the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower before circling around to head towards the Abandoned Gerudo Mine in the Depths. Just before reaching the mine, the dragon ascends from the chasm and emerges to the south of the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower, flying back towards the tower to repeat its path. For a visual representation of Farosh's flight route, see the image above.

Farosh's constant lightning storm makes it important for players to take caution before approaching it. Unequipping any metal weapons, bows, and shields is necessary to avoid being struck by lightning. Upon reaching Farosh, players can obtain lightning swords from its Horns, lightning hammers from its Spike Fragments, and a damage boost from its scales which also provide the lightning element. Utilizing Farosh's Scales in cooking can also extend food buff durations by two minutes. Additionally, Farosh's Claw behaves similarly to the scales when used in fusion and is required for a specific side quest. Like the materials from the other two dragons, Farosh's parts can create powerful AOE lightning arrows that are highly effective against foes but can also be hazardous to Link if fired at close range.

The Light Dragon Location and Path

Tracking down the Light Dragon can prove to be an arduous task as it constantly traverses the entire map, occasionally veering inland before returning to the map's edge. The most effective method for locating this elusive creature is by capturing a photograph of it and utilizing Sensor+ or launching from Skyview Towers to scan in all directions.

If the Light Dragon is not visible from a specific Skyview Tower, players should move on to another and repeat the process until they locate the Dragon.

Alternatively, players can embark on a quest initiated by the Great Deku Tree in the Korok Woods to mark the Light Dragon's location on the map, but this quest can only be completed once. It is recommended that players take a picture of the Dragon for Sensor+ before leaving.

The Light Dragon's Horns and Spike Fragments have the unique ability to restore health to the player when utilized in creating swords and hammers to battle enemies. Its scales also offer the same healing effect while also being a useful ingredient in cooking, granting a 2-minute duration boost to food buffs. The Dragon's fang and claw offer similar benefits as the scale when used in fusion, but also have a high value in the form of Rupees.

One final thing to mention about the Light Dragon is rather spoilery, so read ahead with caution.

Atop the Light Dragon's Head, the Master Sword can be found waiting.
