As players journey through The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, they will be immersed in a captivating narrative that unfolds through mesmerizing cinematic videos. While numerous memories await to be discovered as part of the Geoglyph main quest, the initial memory listed in the Adventure Log can prove elusive to many players.
Where to Find Memory 01 in TotK
To find the first memory in Tears of the Kingdom, players will need to venture to Korok Forest and dispel the Gloom that has fallen upon it.

Players can access Korok Forest for the first time by heading towards the coordinates 0436, 2095, -0588 in The Depths. Upon reaching Korok Grove, near the Rikonasum Lightroot, players will come across a sizable stone structure that allows them to ascend straight into the enchanting forest.
Inside Korok Forest, players will discover the Great Deku Tree and encounter the motionless Koroks. In a quest that pays homage to Ocarina of Time, players are tasked with exploring the Great Deku Tree and eradicating the malevolent force that has taken hold.
How to Heal the Great Deku Tree in TotK
Players can enter the Great Deku Tree through its "naval" at the base of its trunk and find a small homely interior just as they could in Breath of the Wild.
In the back of this area, however, players will find the Deku Tree Chasm descending back down into The Depths along the length of the tree's roots.
At the depths of the chasm enveloped in darkness, a formidable Gloom Spawn lies in wait, prepared to confront Link. Due to the limited space in this area, players are advised to ascend to one of the elevated platforms on the wall, allowing for some distance between them and the numerous hands.
After defeating all the Gloom Spawn, Phantom Ganon will arise from the shadows. It relentlessly seeks to narrow the gap between itself and Link, unleashing devastating Gloom Damage. To gain an advantage in this battle, players can consume nourishing meals and elixirs that provide resistance or healing against Gloom Damage.
If players emerge triumphant in their battle, the oppressive darkness enveloping the Great Deku Tree will disperse, and a jubilant gathering of Koroks will descend to express their gratitude to Link for his valiant deeds. Once the battle is won, players can utilize the Ascend ability to return to the surface and discover a revitalized Korok Forest, brimming with renewed life and energy.
Recovering the Hero's Sword Main Quest
After healing the Great Deku Tree, players will once again be able to interact with the denizens of Korok Forest and explore the surrounding area.
If they have previously met Hestu, players will also find that he has permanently relocated to Korok Forest now that the Gloom is gone.
Link will be thanked by some of the Koroks in the forest and they will guide him towards the Great Deku Tree. By climbing up one of the roots of the tree to reach a small platform, players will have the opportunity to speak to the Great Deku Tree and unlock Memory 01. Additionally, if players have not yet obtained the Master Sword, they will also receive the beginning of the main quest "Recovering the Hero's Sword."
While not necessary for enjoying the game, having the memory adds more depth and clarity to certain plot points in Tears of the Kingdom. It's worth noting that "Recovering the Hero's Sword" is just one of the ways to obtain the Master Sword, meaning players can potentially finish the game without coming across this specific memory.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
