A skilled player of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom recently showcased an impressive infinite-energy helicopter design online. This achievement represents the latest advancement in the game's rapidly growing building meta, which has seen a multitude of community creations since the release of Nintendo's popular title in mid-May.
Although the building mechanics in the new Zelda game are somewhat limited for performance reasons, the Zonai Energy Cells are not subject to these restrictions. Instead, these cells function as a stamina system for vehicles. Similar to how stamina upgrades enhance running and climbing abilities, the player's energy cell count directly impacts how long they can use vehicles such as the Tears of the Kingdom King Gleeok mechs, cars, boats, and more.
That's the theory, but Reddit user miohonda recently broke the entire balancing mechanic with a brilliantly designed helicopter. They used Zonai Shock Emitters to power external batteries, while the energy cell reserves automatically replenish. This contraption, known as Tears of the Kingdom, runs on infinite energy and can stay in the air indefinitely. However, it can only operate in good weather because rain disrupts the Shock Emitter discharge, causing an immediate crash. Adding a roof for precipitation protection isn't feasible as the current design is already complex and can only support two additional parts before falling apart.
The new Zelda game introduces unique and unlimited-energy gadgets that only function during inclement weather. One fan of Tears of the Kingdom demonstrated this by turning an enemy into a rain sensor. However, a newly developed helicopter prototype by miohonda offers more potential as an alternative power source for vehicles. It should be noted that this helicopter is not suitable for traversing rainy areas of Hyrule like Faron.
In addition to its ability to hover indefinitely, miohonda's Tears of the Kingdom helicopter stands out for its inventive use of geared propellers attached to Zonai Springs. This allows the helicopter to switch between ascending and descending modes. Although it lacks steering capability in descent mode, the creator assures that the agile ascent mode compensates for this limitation, ensuring a high level of maneuverability overall.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available on Nintendo Switch.
