Hearthstone is preparing for its upcoming Titans expansion, which will introduce 145 new cards, new Keywords, and a unique Titan card for each class. Prior to the expansion's launch, Game Rant received an exclusive preview of the Spell School Group of cards for Hearthstone's Mage class. These cards allow Mages to utilize spells that are usually inaccessible, potentially leading to devastating effects.
During the expansion's announcement, three cards from the Spell School Group were initially unveiled: Molten Rune, Wisdom of Norgannon, and Inquisitive Creation. Additionally, Game Rant has revealed three previously unseen cards to complete the set: Discovery of Magic, Elemental Inspiration, and Sif. While Mages typically focus on casting spells, this group encourages a more chaotic multi-school playstyle, rather than relying solely on synergies within one specific school.
Discovery of Magic
Elemental Inspiration
Discovery of Magic is a crucial card for the playstyle offered by the Spell School Group to Mages. Its effectiveness becomes evident when combined with other cards in this set. This card allows Mages to draw a spell from any school they haven't used in the game yet, making it advisable for Mages to hold onto it until after they've used arcane, fire, and frost spells, ensuring they receive a spell from a different class. With this card, Mages can surprise their opponents by casting unexpected spells typically associated with Hearthstone's Warlock class or even Demon Hunters. Its low one mana cost and intended use for later turns make it compatible with powerful combos in the mid-to-late game.
Elemental Inspiration, a formidable high-cost card, synergizes remarkably well with Discovery of Magic. With each spell school utilized, Elemental Inspiration summons a 4/5 Vortex elemental endowed with a fortuitous extra ability. These bonuses encompass Divine Shield, Taunt, Rush, Windfury, Stealth, Poisonous, Lifesteal, and Reborn. Astute mages who skillfully employ spells from various schools throughout the match can swiftly seize control of the battlefield, exerting pressure on their opponent and granting Hearthstone's Mage ample breathing space for further incantations.
Sif
Sif is the Legendary card for the Spell School Group, encouraging Mages to utilize multiple schools of magic to maximize her effectiveness. Sif's spell damage increases by +1 for each school the Mage has cast, making her particularly strong in the later stages of the game when the Mage has used a significant number of schools. With a cost of six mana, there is ample opportunity in the later turns to play spells alongside Sif, potentially leading to a game-ending blow. In World of Warcraft, Sif is recognized from the Ulduar raid in Wrath of the Lich King, where Yogg-Saron impersonates Sif and attacks players with frost spells during the Thorim boss fight.
These cards carry some risk as they are most effective in the late game, not allowing Mages to rely on a quick victory early on. However, their power depends on the number of schools used rather than other factors such as the number of characters on the board, making them dependable for multi-school Mages who can withstand the game long enough. The random spell schools and Elemental Vortexes add an element of unpredictability to the gameplay, ensuring each game feels unique even with the same set of cards. It will be intriguing to see how the cards from Hearthstone's Titans expansion influence the other classes.
