The Masamune is an iconic weapon in the Final Fantasy series, appearing in nearly every installment. Its portrayal in Final Fantasy 7 is widely considered the most impressive, as it serves as Sephiroth's primary weapon throughout the game. Although the weapon's design in Final Fantasy 7 may seem impractical, its depiction in Final Fantasy 16 is much more suitable for Clive and seamlessly complements his other equipment.

In Final Fantasy 16, Clive has the opportunity to acquire a wide variety of unique weapons, and the Masamune is among the best choices available. While most weapons can be obtained through purchase from stores or crafting with specific materials, the Masamune can only be obtained by exploring the world of Valisthea and locating the chest in which it is hidden. However, before players can access this chest, they must first gain entry to The Kingdom of Waloed.

Masamune Location In Final Fantasy 16

To obtain the Masamune, players must first embark on the forty-second main quest of Final Fantasy 16, called "Footfalls in Ash." This quest will grant players access to The Kingdom of Waloed, where they can explore the desolate wastelands to uncover hidden areas, trials, and items. Progressing the story requires Clive to travel through The Angry Gap and reach Eistla. However, those seeking to acquire the iconic Masamune sword must remain in The Angry Gap a little longer.

The quickest way to reach The Angry Gap is by fast-traveling to Eistla and crossing the westward bridge. However, if players have not yet activated the Obelisk in The Angry Gap, they will need to travel there on foot from The Shadow Coast.

If players have completed the White-Winged Wonder side quest, Clive can use his Chocobo to get to The Angry Gap a little faster.

Arriving at The Angry Gap from The Shadow Coast, players should proceed by hugging the wall to Clive's right and following it until they come across a hill that leads westward. Upon reaching the top of the hill, Clive will be confronted with a small gap in the wall on his left. He should carefully shimmy through this opening to discover The Hand of Rhea Chronolith and a treasure chest. Interacting with the Chronolith will unlock the Trial by Ice, an intense challenge where Clive must rely on Shiva's unique abilities to defeat several waves of formidable enemies. On the other hand, opening the chest situated to the right will reward him with the legendary Masamune.

Masamune Stats

Equipping the Masamune grants a formidable 310 Attack and 310 Stagger, solidifying its status as one of the most superior swords to obtain in the latter stages of the game. However, adventurers who have already acquired the mighty Ragnarok sword prior to their journey to Waloed may find the Masamune unnecessary, for the Ragnarok possesses a slight edge in terms of power.

The Masamune's base stats are fixed and cannot be strengthened through reinforcement. To enhance its power, Clive can equip an Accessory that increases his Attack. Consider using the Badge of Might or the Genji Gloves for this purpose. However, those seeking a significant damage boost should consider creating the Ragnarok and then the Gotterdammerung, the most potent weapon obtainable in the base game of Final Fantasy 16. The ultimate weapon in the game, the Ultima Weapon, can only be obtained during New Game+ playthroughs. Please note that Final Fantasy 16 is only available on PlayStation 5.
