Known as Lucanine, the Lucario redesign has received positive feedback from fans, who are eagerly speculating about its potential moves and making connections to other franchises like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
A talented Pokemon enthusiast has created an impressive concept for a Fire-type version of Lucario, featuring a more canine-like appearance and an impressive spirit companion. The popular Pokemon franchise has always embraced fresh takes on existing designs, introducing new regional forms and completely original Pokemon. In last year's Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, for example, the Wiglett evolutionary line paid tribute to the iconic Pokemon Diglett, while Paldean variants of Tauros and Wooper were also introduced. Now, a fan has conceived an intriguing reimagining of Lucario.
Pokemon fans have long been known for their imaginative designs, whether creating entirely new Pokemon or putting a unique spin on familiar creatures. Many enthusiasts have paid homage to their favorite Pokemon by designing human-like forms, Mega Evolutions, and regional variants, just to name a few. Some fans have even drawn inspiration from the game's existing designs to invent their own Pokemon within the game's universe, such as a grass-type variation of the legendary Regi Pokemon. The latest fan creation takes a canine-inspired approach to one of Pokemon's most beloved pseudo-legendaries.
Reddit user JJonnie presented a creative and unique redesign of Lucario, a beloved Pokemon, on the Pokemon subreddit. The redesigned version, known as Lucanine, features a different stance, being on all fours instead of its usual bipedal form, and also switches its Steel typing to Fire. This innovative concept introduces a new Ability called "Soul Manifest," which transforms Physical Fighting-type attacks into Special attacks. Additionally, the post envisions a Shiny variant of Lucanine with golden fur and blue flames.
The Lucario redesign received praise from numerous fans in the comment section, who were not only impressed by its stunning appearance, but also recognized a resemblance to another franchise. Many fans pointed out that the spiritual companion assisting Lucanine bears a striking similarity to the Stands from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series. This acknowledgment is not the first time Pokemon fan creations have paid homage to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, as previous fan works have also referenced the popular manga and anime. Some commenters speculated about the potential effectiveness of moves that could utilize Lucanine's unique ability, such as the powerful Physical move Close Combat.
