Step into a nostalgic world as a brilliant Zelda enthusiast reimagines Tears of the Kingdom as a captivating Game Boy Color game Experience the magic and adventure in this original concept that brings the beloved franchise to life on a handheld console

A talented fan of Zelda has come up with an original idea for a Game Boy Color version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Throughout the past 30 years, the popular Nintendo franchise has produced a variety of games for different platforms, including Game Boy Color, GameCube, and Wii.

In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Link and Zelda embark on an expedition beneath Hyrule Castle, which leads to a cataclysmic event known as the Upheaval. This event causes debris and chunks of land to be scattered across the sky and throughout the Kingdom of Hyrule. Additionally, the Upheaval releases a dangerous and enigmatic substance called the Gloom, which drains the life force of those affected by it. Following this significant event, Link awakens on the Great Sky Island with a new Zonai arm and a deteriorated Master Sword. Rauru, the first king of Hyrule, provides Link with essential guidance as he navigates his way and embarks on a quest to find Zelda.

Zelda fan and pixel artist, Ncxaesthetic, recently created an original concept for a Game Boy Color version of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Drawing inspiration from Zelda: Link's Awakening DX, the artist designed various mock-up screenshots showcasing different environments in the game. The first screen displays the title with a pixelated version of the official Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom key art, while the subsequent designs depict Link exploring the Great Sky Island and other areas of Hyrule from a top-down 2D perspective.

Ncxaesthetic's Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom concept uses color palettes similar to those found in Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, which were Capcom's Game Boy Color releases in 2001. These classic games will soon be available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, and a remake of Zelda: Link's Awakening is already accessible on the Nintendo Switch.

Ncxaesthetic's impressive concept for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom brings back nostalgic memories of classic top-down Zelda games. Fans of the franchise are delighted with the overall visual appeal and creative enemy designs showcased in the mock-up screenshots. Although Nintendo is unlikely to revisit the traditional 2D style of Zelda games for future releases, fans can still relive the magic of the franchise's early entries by subscribing to Nintendo Switch Online.

It's important to note that Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom features outfits inspired by past Zelda games, giving players the opportunity to dress up Link as previous versions of the Hylian hero. While exploring Hyrule in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players may stumble upon various outfit pieces, such as the iconic Majora's Mask.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now for Nintendo Switch.
