A creative player of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has designed an entirely new and lethal type of mechanized unit. What sets Tears of the Kingdom apart from other games in the Zelda series is its unique feature of empowering players with a range of abilities and tools to construct virtually any device they can imagine, including deadly mechs capable of effortlessly defeating groups of enemies.
Tears of the Kingdom players have fully embraced the opportunities afforded by these abilities and tools, allowing their creativity to roam freely. Whether it be engineering magnificent aircraft or creating mesmerizing displays using celestial fragments, players are utilizing the game's diverse systems and mechanics to shape Tears of the Kingdom into their ideal gaming experience. This approach deviates significantly from the traditional Zelda formula, where developers meticulously curated a more structured gameplay experience guiding players along predetermined paths, interspersed with specific challenges that must be tackled in set ways. In Tears of the Kingdom, the manner in which players approach and overcome obstacles is completely in their hands.
Some players prefer to tackle problems by constructing an armored mech capable of swiftly obliterating them. This was precisely the approach taken by a Reddit user known as The_Janeway_Effect in a video posted on the game's subreddit. While Tears of the Kingdom's Flux Construct 1 bosses may not be the most challenging foes in Hyrule, it's still satisfying to explore new methods of dismantling them. By utilizing the game's Ultrahand and Autobuild abilities, The_Janeway_Effect ingeniously combined various Zonai devices scattered throughout Hyrule to assemble a highly agile and lethal mech, which effortlessly eliminated the Flux Construct within seconds.
To create the cockpit, The_Janeway_Effect ingeniously repurposed a Zonai weather balloon carriage, positioning it sideways and affixing a steering stick between its base and the slot ordinarily occupied by the balloon. Zonai stabilizers were employed as the mech's feet, connected to sizeable Zonai wheels situated on revolving platforms found throughout the game world. The inclusion of a cannon and a pair of Zonai Beam Emitters, fastened to the mech's sides, greatly assisted in dispatching the boss with exceptional speed.
Modders have found ways to play Tears of the Kingdom in first-person mode, but The_Janeway_Effect achieved a similar effect through clever mech design. Despite being a third-person action game, the camera typically remains behind Link to capture the action. However, by placing the balloon carriage behind him, the camera has difficulty keeping him in frame. As a result, the camera is forced to position itself within Link's chest, creating a simulated first-person perspective. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now accessible on the Nintendo Switch.
